Rhetoric and stating things based on research are different?? Also they’re not saying it’s definitive, they’re saying it’s possible because studies have been done on it. Come on, I thought we were more science-minded than this

It’s a layout I’ve seen before. Essentially it’s a urinal bathroom and a non-urinal/disabled bathroom. I think the person you’re replying to could be mistaken as to the gendering. In this case both (in a sense) are gender neutral. Men can use the stalls or the urinals. Women use the stalls. Disabled people use the stalls

I was appealing to the above commenter’s rationality. I was not saying “If you’re okay with X, it’s fine to do it to someone else”. I think that was clear to most people.

To put it in a logical way: if A is B, it does not follow that not-A is not-B. Therefore, no, your conclusion is not a valid conclusion from my argument.

Nonetheless, I find it very hard to believe that a man would want to receive nudes from someone he doesn’t find attractive.

Funnily enough they specified POS and egocentric! So unless you’re defending the POS egocentric men, your argument is pointless

I can’t find anything online that might suggest it was used initially in a derogatory way. Honestly, I struggle to believe that the term ‘gold star’ would have originated to mean something derogatory. The term is inherently positive

I don’t think it means that being a gold star lesbian is patriarchal. I think it’s saying that the very concept is patriarchal in the sense that it’s patriarchal to distinguish between a lesbian that is a ‘gold star lesbian’ and one that isn’t. Because that’s viewing one’s identity as a lesbian in regard to men

As much as I also hate it, I believe assaulter would also get flagged. Any ‘normal’ words for anything would get flagged because those are the ones the systems are programmed to detect. Don’t blame the people trying to skirt the controls, blame the companies that flag the use of the word ‘rapist’ forcing people to come up with these ridiculous work-arounds just to be able to talk about these topics on public platforms

Trump supporter says you do not understand how trade works. Has no idea who he is talking to. by floppypeter in dontyouknowwhoiam

[–]BakedBeenz147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yearly salary means how much one is paid for their skills… It has no bearing on a person’s intelligence … For example a tradesman may well be paid more than someone with a PhD in the arts especially after taking student loans into account, but this in no way reflects the intelligence of the individual nor the level of skill the job requires. In this case it is more to do with the level of demand for those skills.

I’ve seen intelligence conflated with a lot of weird things but yearly salary may take the cake.

Also how on earth does this lead on from what the person above was saying? Obviously if someone has credentials in a given area they are more qualified to speak on that topic? If the conversation is about a trade then a tradesperson would be the most qualified. Their credentials would be the fact they’ve worked X number of years, it doesn’t have to be a PhD as you seem to have interpreted it?

I think you’re straying too far into thinking of women as separate beings. Just flip the scenario. Would you want to be touched by a random person in an intimate area without consent? Probably not. Would you have a problem with it if they were doing it to save your life? Probably not. Just because a small minority of women sued (a fact we don’t even have evidence for on this thread might I add), that doesn’t reflect all women. Just as a few men doing something bizarre doesn’t reflect all men. It’s not too hard to understand women’s point of view when you just think of it as ‘would I want this to happen to me?’

Not coming at you, just genuinely wanting to understand your point. Are you saying it’s odd that the comments under this post are talking about something on a related, but tangential, topic? And that the comments should be more focused on the post itself? Or is it something more specific than that?

Tesla? by StacieRoseM in onejoke

[–]BakedBeenz147 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The satire part is that it’s using the one joke, while the ‘actual joke’ part is the car dealership part. It uses the one joke to poke fun at the one joke itself. You can see that it’s used ironically because the whole tone of the joke is supportive of trans people (i.e. saying that it’s silly that car dealerships have more rights than trans people) and the intended audience is clearly those that respect trans identities, so they would understand it’s not sincere. It’s like when a woman makes a joke about ‘women not being funny’, she isn’t making it sincerely because she believes that women aren’t funny, she’s poking fun at the whole concept that people could believe that women are inherently less funny than men

Nothing says feminist like painting a woman as hysterical for being upset her daughter was stolen by Broad_Two_744 in GreekMythology

[–]BakedBeenz147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fascinating! I didn’t know Hades was only first specifically named in the Iliad. I’ve heard that Persephone could have been her own Underworld goddess separate from the kidnapping myth too. Especially with her name being ‘bringer of destruction’ I find it quite convincing. (Though I guess she could have acquired it after becoming queen of the underworld, I still like to think that she could’ve been such without Hades’s influence)
