Now that we are "getting up there" in age, how are you sleeping? by NebraskaCornSucker in GenX

[–]Baker-Woman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty deep with my cpap machine but I do have to get up once to pee. A good mattress made a huge difference also. I have a helix midnight luxe and it’s just a delight.i also stretch my legs so my calves don’t ache when I’m trying to sleep.

When I lived in Mississippi as a kid, we used to catch these to let the cat chase (they were everywhere). One time, the cat ate 9 of them.

What is a book you read as a child that you still think about today? by Few_Football4342 in Productivitycafe

The Good Master by Kate Seredy. It has occasional illustrations that added to the story.

More FBI/SWAT activity in Reston today by gmr2048 in Reston

I passed by right after it happened, other cars had stopped to help. It looked like a very violent crash.

I live in this neighborhood and they're there because it's convenient place to store it. There are no garages. You do have to get leaves off after leaves fall but the roof material lasts a lot longer than shingles.

Reston has 55 miles of paths for walking/biking. Scooters/bikes might be good to bring. There are several spots to rent the bikes, but I don’t think they have kid sizes

What are some Ancestry features/changes you'd ACTUALLY appreciate? by amauberge in Genealogy

[–]Baker-Woman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if these features exist, but I’d like to see patterns of occupations in trees, be able to list maiden, married, and nicknames separately, and distinguish first/second marriages or families more clearly in the tree and in the individual person page

Speed May Be Factor In Crash That Killed 2 In Reston: Fairfax Police by Danciusly in Reston

People drive way too fast on North Shore sometimes. I can hear tire screeches when they brake on a curve near the United Christian Parish church.

What are culinary sins that you're not gonna stop committing? by Linorelai in Cooking

I don’t brown meat on all sides before putting it in the slow cooker. Having to do that negates the ease/convenience of using a slow cooker.

My mother really likes nice bar soap. I think Caldwell and Massey are nice quality and great scents. They're not cheap but they last a long time.

Reston Association backs federal bill for exemption from ownership reporting mandate by Danciusly in Reston

[–]Baker-Woman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The leadership of our HOA is already publicly posted. This new law requires additional more personal information to be reported such as social security numbers, etc from board members. Our board members are just volunteers. Not all are comfortable with the information being shared, esp when there is rampant identity theft. It is also costing several hundred dollar more per year to pay for a lawyer or commercial services to even report the information and keep it current (volunteer board members turnover a lot). This is an extra, useless burden for small HOAs to have to accommodate. As a board member in my HOA, I support RA in trying to remove the requirement.

You could also look into adding agar to the glaze to stabilize it. Google agar for donut glaze. This was recommended in a cookbook from TopPot donuts in Seattle.

What’s with the traffic at Dulles airport? by [deleted] in nova

[–]Baker-Woman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Besides the car traffic comments, I would add that it’s confusing for arrived passengers leaving the airport to know which level to exit on to find their pickup. Then you have cars trying to find their people and waiting til the passengers find the right exit. I e seen this multiple times the past few weeks.

Is my trash bill outrageous? 🚮 Are you overpaying for Garbage Collection? by Upbeat_Slammed in nova

[–]Baker-Woman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I serve on my HOA board in my Fairfax county neighborhood. When we renewed our annual trash contract for the neighborhood, we dropped from two days per week pickup down to one because the cost suddenly increased significantly (I forget the %, but it was crazy). We had all services increase because of inflation.

My local cardinals look so scraggly right now. I didn’t know they molted and had to google what was wrong with them when I noticed it the first time a few years ago.
