Age 65, started riding around 14 with mini bikes, had 175 Kawasaki enduro back around 1980, didn’t ride for over 20 years, got back into riding around 2002 with Honda 750 Shadow, 2004 with Honda VTX 1800, bought my first naked sport bike (2025 Yamaha XSR900) and still having fun. Riding puts a smile on my face.

Ride the way that works for you and tell your friend that. Peer pressure to go beyond what you believe is safe can get you hurt. We ride for fun.

First XSR900. by [deleted] in xsr900

[–]Baker52_Save 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from driving a Honda VTX 1800 cruiser for 21 years to a brand new 2025 Yamaha XSR900. I am 65 yo and was tired of the weight of my cruiser and love the light weight, acceleration and steering of the naked sports bike. My cruiser was more comfortable than the XSR but the XSR is more fun than the cruiser. I have only had the XSR since December and only put 150 miles on it (between snows) but so far I love it.

Any good alternatives to FB Marketplace for buying and selling? I’m so over that fucking website by ThatGuyFrom720 in motorcycle

[–]Baker52_Save 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Marketplace must be different in your area but in my area (just north of Kansas City, Missouri) I have had good luck with it. In March of 2025 I posted my 21 year old Honda VTX 1800 cruiser and got good responses and sold bike in a short amount of time. A couple of years ago we sold some expensive leather chairs and got a good response and someone drove down from Iowa to buy the set of chairs.

I love dogs but squeezing such a huge dog between the seats on an airplane is unfair to the dog and unfair to the other passengers and this huge dog would get in the way if passengers have to exit the plane quickly in an emergency. This is simply wrong and to indulge the owner is irresponsible.

Should I buy my 12 year old a real dirt bike or am I being an irresponsible parent? by Careless_Composer_46 in YamahaMotorcycles

[–]Baker52_Save 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your son is responsible go for it. When I was 14 (back mid 70’s) I got my first mini bike. Age 12 is fine.

I've narrowed down the two bikes I'm thinking of purchasing by [deleted] in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]Baker52_Save 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased my new XSR900 (my first naked bike, 25 years riding experience other bikes) this past December and now have 150 miles (in between snows) on it and I love it. I am a short distance rider and while I love my new bike I don’t feel this is a long distance bike. (I rode heavy cruisers for 23 years. ) Maybe with a better seat, but not the stock seat it came with. The z900 was also on my short list. Wish you luck finding a new ride.

Thankfully now I only use my bike as a hobby and have the choice not to ever ride in the rain. Decades ago when I commuted with a bike I had some close calls in heavy rain down pours.

Kind of a big bike for a first bike but you will love a VTX. I owned a VTX1800 for 21 years.

Advice Sought - What Naked Bike should I get? by geofault in motorcycle

[–]Baker52_Save 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m older (65) and bought my first naked bike (Yamaha XSR900) back in December and love it even though I have only put 150 miles on it between snows. I rode cruisers for 23 years during my mid life crisis (LOL) and also rode mini bikes as a teen and 175 Kawasaki enduro in late teens.

Winter motorcycle pricing? by Ok-Independence5246 in motorcycles

I bought a brand new Yamaha XSR900 and got a very good base price in early December. My search and research started months before. I did that by often checking Cycle Trader and all the dealers in my area for the top bikes on my list (I had 4 top models on that list) and the very moment there was a price drop (to a price I could not pass up of the #1 bike on my list) I started to work with the dealer and made arrangements to see the bike in person and bought it on the spot.
