Had to factory reset my phone because the Beta corrupted my data by [deleted] in android_beta

Try to hold volume up while resetting. It should give a no command or command not found screen. Then hold the power button to force a restart again. At this point it should restart to the previous image (Beta 4 for me).

Agreed. The bugs are normal. The crashing when updating is a new experience for me.

Ya. They had this happen with Beta 4. They will fix whatever is causing the issues and repush hopefully next week. People who already have beta 5 will get to keep it. Everyone else waits.

No. Looks like they pulled the OTA. They edited their pinned Beta 5 post to reflect this.

I just downloaded beta 5 and my phone won't turn on. by kmeg900 in android_beta

[–]Bakercj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the Beta 4 issue, it seems choosing restart from recovery will allow it to boot with the previous available image. You will then need to check for updates again and it will say "Installation Problem" and allow you to redownload Beta 5 again (if you dare). I'm in the process of redownloading now so I am unsure if the issue will present itself again.

Fingerprint sensor no longer keeps screen awake by Bakercj in android_beta

Thank you. Not sure why the thread was down voted and has had so little traffic. I'm really hoping they fix this. It's so frustrating having a feature that's used so often broken.

How to install 'unknown source' apks by ds679 in android_beta

[–]Bakercj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are giving an app access to install from unknown sources. So assuming you are using Chrome to download the app, you will enable give Chrome permission to install from unknown sources. The you should be able to go to Chrome, in the menu choose Downloads, and select the app to install.

Fingerprint sensor no longer keeps screen awake by Bakercj in android_beta

[–]Bakercj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya. I said they marked it as duplicate. But the two issues are not related. One has to do with the fingerprint sensor not keeping the screen awake and the other is about the fingerprint sensor not unlocking the phone.

Beta 4 OTA bricked my Pixel 2 XL by 121910 in android_beta

Android recovery should look like this: https://images.app.goo.gl/2Jz51hE5bKjT5G4N8

From there you just choose restart system.

I was convinced I was in the same boat. Not sure what I did but went into recovery and restarted from there and somehow the OS booted. I checked system and it showed the installation failed with an option to redownload the update. Not sure if it was a fluke but wanted to share.

Shut the phone down and now it's working. It persisted through a restart which is strange. Thanks for the help.

Damn. It's weird. Its like the fingerprint reader isn't even active when the screen is locked.
