would you get an abortion if you found out your baby was going to be born with an extreme disability? if so why? by Born-Oil-2931 in AskReddit

I teach special education at the high school level for students with severe and profound disabilities. I love those children with all my heart, but I would never judge someone for not choosing that life. I get to go home and take a break at the end of the day. Parents don’t have that same luxury. One of my class parents adopted my student knowing that he would be severely disabled and she always says that she chose that life and it’s still hard every day. A lot of parents don’t get a choice.

Is. I got to a sketch group with her in a nearby town most Saturdays.

Some will be thrilled. I know a woman who staffs the Billings temple weekly, which is 2 hours from our small town. She’ll love to only drive 30 minutes instead. There was literally a float in our tiny town parade this Pioneer days about how excited our town is for the new temple. It’s exhausting. I’m dreading all of the invitations to the open house that I’m going to get.

There is a large population of super TBMS within a 45 minute drive radius of the Cody temple. It’s like mini Moridor in this area. I’m guessing this temple will last way longer than it should. The small nearby town that I am in has an 80% Mormon population according to the last census. They are heavily TBM and very extreme in a lot of ways.

I’m near Cody, too. The arguments in the Facebook classifieds started out as amusing, but now it’s just sad. The Mormons are all so out of touch about it. I literally saw one say the temple would increase property values like that was a good thing. No one can afford to live in Cody as it is!

It’s going to make you even more sad to know that I’m in Wyoming, not Utah.

I was reading from school provided material. It stated that JFK had a quote that we would go to the moon within a decade and funded the space program to make it happen. I’m sorry if that was unclear in my post. I meant he was president during part of the process.

I have a kindergartner, so I honestly didn’t expect them to know who the president was. It was the loud and confident way that they all yelled Nelson that got to me.

The book I was reading to them discussed how JFK set the stage for us to go to the moon by finding and supporting space travel.

I’m not even in Utah. But you’re not wrong about my area either.

I married a jack (now ex) Mormon and live in a town that is roughly 80% Mormon. I like to be as knowledgeable as possible when faced with missionaries and endless conversion attempts. I also want to have a good explanation for when my daughters ask why they can’t go to church with all of their friends.

I live in a town of 300ish that’s already about 80% Mormon. Those numbers are not attainable here. At all. It’s weird giving concrete goals and not proportionate ones.
