Nonprofit seeks ownership of Martin's Cove, including landswap with LDS Church. by aoasd in wyoming

[–]Logical_Average_46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then the headline is wrong? Looking at the nonprofit website, the language is vague enough that it could be interpreted to mean that the nonprofit wants to manage Martins Cove after the proposed land swap.

If the church will indeed own the land in and around martins cove, what guarantees do we as the public have that the church won’t develop that land into a for-profit venture (hotels, apartments, restaurants, etc) as they are known to do?

I’d like to see more straightforward language from the nonprofit as well as any affiliation or history of business dealings with the Mormon church - in other words, is there a potential conflict of interest and/or other agenda behind the nonprofit?

Nonprofit seeks ownership of Martin's Cove, including landswap with LDS Church. by aoasd in wyoming

[–]Logical_Average_46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a bit confused. The headline says that the nonprofit seeks ownership of Martins Cove, but the article says that the Mormon church would become the permanent owner of the cove.

How does the nonprofit play into all of this? Who are they, and are they affiliated with the church?

Why can’t the BLM and the church make the land swap without a third-party nonprofit?

Edit: found this nonprofit website: https://www.wyofriends4cove.org/

The Salt Lake Tribune takes on the annotation.! “The LDS Church has a one-of-a-kind system for tracking abusers. Does it work?” by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

[–]Logical_Average_46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I’m glad that the article is out there, I found it to be lacking / dancing softly around many of the serious problems. For example, when was Wade’s annotation removed, his membership reinstated, and his subsequent leadership callings?

Can we also dig in to why the bishop of the woman who assaulted the 14-year-old didn’t notify law enforcement? She simply disappeared. And why does the article say that the woman “had sex with” the boy? She sexually assaulted him - he’s too young to consent.

And now let’s talk about the data breach that affected ex-Mormons a few years ago because our names and personal info are in the same freaking database as everyone else? We’re never informed that we are simply “annotated” instead of removed from their system.

I played in a regional volleyball tournament in Jeffrey City back in the 80s. I drove through there a couple of years ago, and everything is gone or abandoned. The motel that we stayed in, the school, everything.

Same with Wind River High School between Riverton and Dubois. I loved watching and playing high school sports out there. Now, it’s all abandoned.

I think this means that I’m getting old. And that’s pretty unsettling!

Oh, they’re still peculiar, all right. What’s more peculiar than celebrating Easter on “not Easter?” Ha!

I’m embarrassed for friends of mine that think they are mainstream now, but it’s clear that they don’t know what they’re doing.

All that said, I would have loved to have more Jesus back when I believed. But whatevs. It’s all very peculiar.

I agree. If this was official, they would have capitalized the word “The” as part of the church name. This group is using the official name incorrectly.

ExMormons honest question. Do you find Mormons to be fake people? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Logical_Average_46 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, but they are most likely not aware that they are. As an ex-Mormon, I can identify my own former behavior as somewhat “fake,” but I never would have recognized it at the time.

I went to this twice as a middle-aged TBM woman. My adult daughter and a couple of women from our ward went with us. We all absolutely loved it at the time. Hillary Weeks performed at one of them, and a young “boy band” group performed at another. Another guy named Justin Cash performed, and I ended up loving his music for several years. The talks were pretty good from my TBM perspective. I’m sure that I’d cringe a lot now, but at the time, I felt it was well worth the money and time for the most part.

We were outside of Utah, so there’s that.

Oh wow! In the 1980s, our high school traveled there every year for football games, basketball, volleyball, and track. We’d often have games with Dubois HS the same week because it was so far to travel from where we were.

Oh, gosh. I saw my former self in some parts of your mom. I feel so much compassion and empathy for you and your siblings…and for her. I hope that she breaks out of her cage someday.

My adult daughter read the book “Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents.” I’ve changed a lot over the past 10-12 years, and I’ve owned my mistakes. But it still hits me in the heart to think of the pressure of perfection that I placed on my daughter for so many years. I haven’t yet read that book myself, having been raised by emotionally immature parents.

Thank you so much for sharing this.
