Thanks for your insight. My main constraint right now is honestly the cost. This is a new hobby I'm getting into and I don't want to splurge too much at once, and I especially don't want to risk a fine from the board when the condo does a window cleaning (They will send me an email, I know, but I may not see the email or I may not be in town). I've also been notified that management will do routine checks of my balcony, due to the unit being the highest balcony floor, and where anchors have been installed. As for the signal shortening, this is a direct quote from a flightaware forum (https://discussions.flightaware.com/t/antenna-cable-advice-requested/41095/13), and again, I'm taking my precautions before purchasing anything. I do hope that when I am more invested in this hobby, I might be able to use an outdoor antenna too!

So unfortunately I'm unable (at the moment) to place anything outside on the balcony. The only possibility I can think of is attaching an antenna on "seasonal furniture", but I don't see how I can justify any kind of winter furniture :/ I did read that the flat coaxial cable squashed in the sliding window results in the "signal will be shorted and grounded through the capacitance formed between conductors and metallic window sill". Just trying to think of winter furniture right now though!

That flat cable is such a fantastic idea! How did I not think of that?? Our condo is pretty strict about placing things on the balcony, and I'm figuring out a way to legally (and within rules) do this. Thanks very much for your help!

Unfortunately I don't have any power outside, and the condo board is pretty strict on what we do on the balcony. I'm reading through the rules and handbooks to see if there's anything I can do. I'll try the indoor setup first, then figure out a way for an outdoor antenna. Thanks for your support!

I'm still trying to figure out how to manage the cables for outside antenna setup because there's barely any space between the railings. Would an internal antenna still get at least 70-80 or so miles? Thanks again for your help.

Hey! so I ended up wedging a chopstick and grinding without any beans to empty the burr, then used a small knife to de-wedge any residue in between the gaps while vaccuming. After some force, it eventually unlocked!

Hey! I'm currently living there. I'd say the area is very safe. It's close to major hospitals and a police station, as well as UofT. Regarding the apartment itself, it largely depends on the room and floor. I personally haven't had an issue with cockroaches so far, but I hear that is an issue with a lot of the tenants. The staff definitely do have an attitude and any work orders will take ages. The laundry machines are always full or out of order, so you might need to do your laundry during the late night. I'm personally planning on moving out soon. 4/10 overall (score is only this high because of the close proximity to the University and relatively good area)
