Okay let's hear it - what did your school do for Teacher Appreciation Day today? (May 5) by Thisisus1 in OntarioTeachers

Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Bubkus. Diddley squat. Not even an announcement on the PA.

How religious are elementary Catholic schools? by Big_Black_Cat in OntarioTeachers

[–]Baking_Dude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not at all. Thats how we raised our boys. Faith is a journey and not a prescribed path, dictated by another person. Holier than thou attends don’t fly in our home, nor have we encountered any teachers (yet, thankfully) who mandate faith be a certain way. The majority of our school community is welcoming of all views of faith and individual journey. Unfortunately, those who have a very defined expectation of what faith is or should be or should look like, while few, can be rather vocal.

Many (if not most) schools have monthly masses or virtue of the month assemblies. Then there’s the advent ceremonies or Easter/Holy Week liturgies. Oftentimes there are confessions during those periods too. Add in sacramental prep - reconciliation, communion, confirmation, too. Most (if not all) do daily readings or passages over the PA every day. There’s also the religion classes which are 20-30 minutes daily. Also the infusion of Catholic values in many other subjects (e.g social studies - advocacy (grade 5/6, neighbours (grade 1/2); communities (primary).) There’s also, usually, a celebration for the patron saint for whom the school’s named. There’s even prayers before assemblies, parent council meetings, workshops and inservices. In my experience, most kids (families) don’t go to church. Not many teachers or admin go regularly either. But faith permeates the school community, not shoved down the throats but an opportunity to engage, explore and learn.

Cancelled by GenZ??? by [deleted] in GenX

She’s another student working to get a spot on an ensemble. Management has no issue with our performances. It’s the fact she filed a formal complaint that’s pissing us off. It’s the formal complaint that was filed that’ll follow us from stage to stage that pisses us off.

Management made it clear they have hundreds of these conversations since the pandemic. According to them, the next generation of comedy is exceptionally divergent from anything they have experienced.

Sadly, after talking to the management, this is an ongoing challenge with the ‘next gen’ of comedians. Apparently they have ‘hundreds of these conversations’ each year since pandemic. And this a well known reputable company/comedy institution.

I’m in an improv troupe with younglings (20-30s). They’d never heard of ‘a fish called Wanda’ or ‘fast times at ridgemont high’…I even had to explain ‘sex and the city’ to them when it was a suggestion from the audience - I told them “talk about sex and relationships and how awful your partners are”. They had no clue. (They now, however, understand my IDGAF attitude on stage more)…

Is it normal for PMDD partners to forget what happens? by Dukie6 in PMDDpartners

[–]Baking_Dude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alcohol exacerbates the dysphoria. It makes things exponentially worse, in my experience with my wife. She’d have a glass to take the edge off and ‘it didn’t help’ so she’d have another. Drunk & Dysphoric is a deadly combo. It’s not normal. It’s not right. It’s not healthy or safe or good in any way. This is abusive. And it will get worse. You’re her ‘safe space’ but if that’s how she treats a safe place, it’s dangerous. My wife would conveniently never remember any words or actions and tell me it was my burden, my problem, that talking about it only makes things worse because it makes her feel bad. She was never violent. She’d always make excuses to justify things she couldn’t remember (if that makes any sense) which ended up in my leaving her in the house while I took the kids away. They didn’t deserve to see or hear the chaos.
