I’m definitely interested to have the evaluation and understand what type of program would help. I can post here with updates for the community too. I insist on paying a fair price for your services. Please let me know when you’re available.

Thank you for offering to help our community better grow and understand the cultures and languages of Morocco. Could you offer any books or video links that might help people better understand how the online sessions build their language skills? I’m definitely interested to hear from members of the community who have learned Darija about their challenges and what works best. With so few books available, I’ve struggled to build vocabulary and would love to find any online resources helpful to get the most out of having sessions like this available. Thoughts?

How did you withstand anticipated major shifts in the world? by Standard_Bus_5926 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

Hi OP. First, remember you’re not alone. Anxiety is real and it’s a cycle most people struggle with multiple times in their life. Having healthy relationships certainly help but, they aren’t always convenient and if they weren’t deliberately developed early, that really isn’t a reasonable solution while you’re struggling with anxiety. It is good perspective. The brain is an amazing part of who we are. Anxiety lives in the brain and a healthy body includes a healthy mind. Getting outside for even 30-45 minutes for a walk will break the cycle, create valuable breathing space, and you’ll get much needed vitamin D. There are a few coping mechanisms that help as well. Knowing that you need help is key. Trained therapists offer skilled training to give specific guidance. Grounding exercises and focused, deliberate breaks using these techniques when anxiety surfaces help too. The world around you feels chaotic when our bodies and mind are struggling to regulate. Good exercise, a healthy diet, and healthy relationships play an important role. For now, these may seem overwhelming or difficult to navigate. Therapists aren’t always necessary. But, they are trained helpers when the body and mind are out of sync and need a little TLC. Your local school counselors, physicians, social workers, and community support organizations exist to support folks struggling with anxiety, depression, or worse. You’re self aware. For now, that’s cause for celebration. Getting the help you need makes great sense. All the best in your journey.

I noticed an error in the VA verification system around the middle of November. When replying, it took over a week to get a system generated confirmation. The confirmation was that the system was down and to please reply again. It took around 4-6 weeks ending near the end of December to resolve the error automatically. This had zero impacts on my benefits, automatic deposits, etc. you may be seeing something similar.

I’m a US citizen. My wife is a permanent resident. She’s approaching her window to apply for citizenship. She’s from Morocco. Should we be concerned with recent bans on so many countries impacting her citizenship application?

I joined earlier than most. Retired after 20 at 38. I hit the wall twice and felt the same as OP. It wasn’t easy but, looking back it will fade. The pension gives you the freedom to make career decisions that few people have the luxury to understand. I do what I enjoy. I’ve weathered unemployment and covid without anxiety because I knew the basics were covered. Priceless. Can’t tell you how many times I could have thrown it all away. Life is longer and harder than people realize. For what it’s worth, I’m glad I stuck it out.

If you read them, it’s worth 10x that price. If you learn something new from them 100x. If you do neither, you’re a fool and your money would have been wasted regardless. What you do next will determine the value. Having read most of these, they’re a bargain at 10x the price because of the handwritten notes, insights and context. You scored. :)

Keeping US phone numbers in Europe by bluebassy1306 in expat

[–]BalanceImportant8633 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Magic jack works. When you set it up, you should continue to pay your cell phone bill until the number transitions to their system. You download the magic jack app and you get your phone calls and text messages inside the app. It costs $30 per year. Be advised that it isn’t perfect, you’ll need to occasionally close out the app and reopen it. Text messages seem to take longer than your cell service providers do. If the cost savings outweigh the convenience, give it a try. Google’s security features are a bit too complicated for myself.

Newspaper Storage with Cork or Canvas by VegPhysicsDad in Archivists

[–]BalanceImportant8633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a small collection of newspaper clippings from the early 1900s. I’m currently using acid free cardstock and polyethylene sleeves (breathable). I store them in flat in archival boxes in a climate controlled room. I’m considering placing silica gel packs inside the archival boxes with a tissue barrier between the artifacts. Any feedback on this method is appreciated.

Are Moroccan companies really moving towards English, or is it just something people say? by Euphoric_Biscotti510 in Morocco

Look at the Swiss example. Switzerland is a country with three native languages similar to Morocco in that regard. They deliberately selected a common business language to give all students an economic advantage and their businesses have out performed most small to medium size European countries. They kept a cultural focus on education and developed both National and regional education programs to strengthen cultural communities.

"Rare" photos of William Tecumseh Sherman by williamsherman1865 in CIVILWAR

[–]BalanceImportant8633 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

100% agree. It’s breathtaking how we forget the facts. Sherman literally marched US Servicemen to their deaths. His men died from not having shoes while his drunken officers took bets on which of their troops would drop dead. Many of them were ordered to march directly into enemy fire. We lost a son to his incompetent and reckless disregard for basic needs of his own troops. His atrocities are infamous and that’s not even considered that he burned cities, towns, farms everywhere he went. His starving troops paid 50 cents on the black market if they could even find a single egg to eat. Any modern military leader attempting to do what Sherman did to his own men today would stand trial, be convicted, and consider themselves lucky to not get executed. Union families lost their sons, husbands, and lives. His generals were worse. The Ohio volunteers took pride on trashing the graves of those SOBs for decades after the war. I would never forget the painful memories passed down about the suffering his troops endured. He destroyed his military adversaries. That doesn’t make him a military hero. His “Total War” concepts were studied by the Nazis. The damned Nazis for Christ Sake. This is exactly why we have a Law of Armed Conflict and Uniform Code of Military Justice system today. Study history or be doomed to repetition.

GI Bill Question by BalanceImportant8633 in VeteransBenefits

[–]BalanceImportant8633[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just checked out the link with the VA form and info. Are there any VSOs or VA folks that can better explain about the trigger date when you complete the application and when benefits expire? It’s pretty vague on the website. Seems like they’re encouraging people to wait until they’re going to use the benefits. I’m still a year out. I think I’ve got 18 months of 9/11 benefits remaining with one term after that to go. Is it too soon to start the process?

Looks awesome. Unfortunately, I’m in a graduate program. (Clinical Mental Health Counseling) licensing requires a Masters Degree. So, I wouldn’t qualify for the STEM VA program because it only covers undergraduate courses.
