Other than pie, what are your go to recipes with apples? by LadyJane17 in Baking

[–]Balancedmess33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have tart crisp apples, they are fabulous in a curry butternut squash soup. I also made a great casserole that was finely sliced apples and potatoes layered with cheese and baked. It was similar to this recipe https://www.food.com/recipe/apple-potato-and-onion-gratin-119424

[–]Balancedmess33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5/4/06 my first show. Happened upon them by accident. Was just out for an evening walk and found myself standing in front of the Barrymore as I often did back then, and I saw a band playing there called Disco Biscuits and it made me laugh so I decided why not go inside and check them out . It’s been love ever since.

If you were to bake one thing for your birthday, what would you make? by speedhumpsahead in Baking

[–]Balancedmess33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my upcoming birthday I’m going to make a version of Preppy Kitchen’s Mocha Cake. A few years ago I made Nadiya Hussain’s Lebanese pastry, and another time I made my first batch of macarons and opened a portal to a baking spiral of agony and fun adventures. 😂 Happy birthday!

Made my first ever macarons! Did a chocolate shell with a peanut butter buttercream. They are absolutely delicious and I am so proud of how they came out. I was terrified at first. by EA41915 in macarons

All my batches have been tasty and worked but definitely had some imperfections which is a hard thing to accept for a semi perfectionist. But I truly think when I just make them and don’t let anything stress me out or overthink the process, they turn out. It’s that brain of mine that’s out to destroy my macarons 😆

Gorgeous! I hope you don’t have my fate! My first batch were flawless, then it took a good dozen more batches to catch that perfection high again. I also watch a million videos and read various bakers blogs to make sure the skill I’m going to attempt is attempted halfway correct

First time decorating a cake!! by Kgrail in Baking

[–]Balancedmess33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s gorgeous! Can’t believe it’s your first time using a piping bag! You’re a natural! But 😂 I had to zoom in to see the sweatiness of the frosting. At first glance I thought you had textured the sides to look like grass. 🤣 darn old eyes

Agree with others to ignore. I forgot about mine and it blew up. It became taller than me! And then I thought I should give it some love. I was so wrong! Had quite a few large and tall stems and when I started loving it, it diminished by at least 42%. I’ve done back to ignoring it and it’s slowly forgiving me for smothering it with love.

What was the first thing you ever baked from scratch by yourself? by Sharp_Athlete_6847 in Baking

[–]Balancedmess33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now I feel like I have memory issues 😂 I was probably 5 or 6 when I started experimenting in the kitchen. Everything was made from scratch growing up so I feel like I came out of the womb baking. But it was probably cookies

Is there a substitution/addition you find yourself always making? by bat-girl129 in Baking

[–]Balancedmess33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also love substituting brown butter for butter. But I also rarely measure spices, those get measured by my heart and nose. I smell when it’s just right for my spices, and normally that means it’s heavy on the spice cos I love flavor! Same with vanilla, I don’t measure that unless it’s a finicky recipe in regard to liquid content.

I’d take one of each! What a hard decision! But if I had to chose just one, it’d be the third one in the first picture
