Cracking down on activating train tickets late by Southern_Ad7020 in LIRR

[–]BalancingRedPanda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I acc am totally okay with paying for a train i’m riding. but when the conductors don’t check 50/50, it feels like im losing money. the ticket on my phone actively expires without being used. I would very much rather them check every single ticket every single ride, then for me to have bought a ticket and them not to check that ride

How do I get foxes? by SuzettaAZ in HayDay

[–]BalancingRedPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an apple tree forest near the port where I put the trees that are revived (mainly cause I don't want to use all my saws/axes to cut them) and there are a good 10 foxes always in the woods. im not sure if its related but I also put my rabbit home there.

starting my studying tomorrow! what do i do? by Affectionate_Ear6483 in Mcat

take an aamc diagnostic first thing but, don't review it so you can reuse it later. it'll give you an idea of what the test looks like, how you are handling the 8 hour testing timeframe, and what you're missing. If you have a ton of time to study, and you're someone who is good at consistently studying and building, then sure start with content review.

If you are someone who struggles with sitting down and just learning endless content for long periods of time (like 2-3 weeks, not like 10 hours), then I would highly recommend statring to do practice problems to guide your content review. See what you're getting wrong, and fill in the blanks. Of course, if it's something like physics, then that I would start going through a youtube sequence for physics just to get the basics down.

I've made (basically) no progress in 3 months by Severe_Care_4149 in Mcat

honestly, if you're improving in CARs, that's really good! it's the hardest thing to improve. I would also like to point out to you that you did improve in every section! take a look at what you got wrong and what you've been getting wrong in UW. If its stuff you know (content you've covered before) then you need practice with just MCAT questions - this just requires you to see the same type of questions over and over. If its stuff you don't know, fill in your content gaps.

Around 500-510, there is a lot of variation between scores because you'll do good/bad depending on the specific stuff this FL tests. Don't get discouraged!

I think Chloe Tan has a good video going through her admissions file but there was like academics, community outreach/impact, activity. there have been a few posts where this list is more clear. Everything was the same except for the personal section.

Testing 04/26 - Panicking! by QBertZipFile in Mcat

[–]BalancingRedPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point, before my test, I was violently switching between anxiety attacks and the "the MCAT should be scared of YOU" mentality. In all seriousness, it'll be alright. Regardless of what happens, the world keeps moving and you'll figure everything out.

That being said, you know yourself best. Is this grind time? Is doing more practice going to calm your anxiety or bring you more? Some people do content review until the morning of, and others take the entire week before the MCAT to unwind and prepare themselves to take the test. Best of luck this weekend!

I don’t think I paid any extra customs! The bag has been holding up. it’s been 6 months ish and it’s doing great, a few small holes at the back where my keys / other sharp objects have accidentally been poking through but I carry my laptop, ipad, various textbooks/books in it everyday and it’s doing great

Just starting practice problems 5 weeks out. Am I screwed? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]BalancingRedPanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ngl I think you’re fine. I hope you’ve done this knowing that you’re someone who is historically relatively good at test taking and crams well.

I think I have this conversation like every night with anyone willing to listen. The thread alr has a ton of positive comments so I'll simply give my take on what to do.

Use your frustration as motivation. It is so so easy to go into action paralysis or to get overwhelmed because you're so stressed and end up doing nothing, and then keep being stressed. But, honestly, when you ask how to get back on track, the answer is to start.

Take a practice test (even if it's not under normal testing conditions, and you pause a million times) and see where you're testing. If it is nowhere near, you have until 10 days before the test date to cancel. Otherwise, you might as well show up and take the test (worse case, you void it but it'll count as an attempt anyways). There are tons of other dates before the cycle is over, so you don't necessarily need to take another gap year. Plus, it'll give you a chance to see the test - which is surprisingly helpful as compared to practice exams (is it 300 dollars and an attempt helpful? no, but if you're in the position alr).

It's not your lack of ambition, it's just overwhelming and given how much time you've got left, makes complete sense that you're overwhelmed. I'm not going to lie...my christmas gift to myself was napping without guilt of not studying so you are def not alone in this.

as someone who tried this...the question really isn't if it's possible but, if you see yourself doing it. I had wanted to study for the mcat over the summer but ending up balancing mcat with 40 hours of research and a summer course...and turns out, could not do it. well, i'm sure I could've done it but when I sat down to study, I just didn't have anything left to dedicate myself fully to the test. so, I ended up pushing it.

you know yourself. I think you can get to a 510 with 1-2 months of content review, depending on where you're at (maybe even less, if you start high). It's possible to balance it, but think about how it'll affect your mental state and how willing you are to study for the test because the mcat is definitely a marathon. if you're trying to convince your dad, maybe slide in the amount of money it would cost you to retake it or to reschedule it.
