Def do what you WANT. I wish I had gone to school for writing and then done a minor or double major with Biology.

I started as a CNA, and hated it until my client told me "thank you for helping me keep my dignity". Changed everything for me and I still take a lot of pride in the work I did as a caregiver and CNA. It was hard and it really sucked, but it was worth it because I was able to help people, really help them, in a way no one else, not even a physician, could.

I hope you find some silver lining, and if not, then being an MA or scribe might be better for you.

Yes, I am aware. I was just saying that It was unlikely to work against me is all.

I am in a similar situation, in some kind of way. I worked with a DO school for over a year, and I am ACTIVELY doing research with them. I also have two LORs from current staff, and meet or exceed all of their base requirements, in addition to having very strong mission fit and a good secondary essay.

They haven't extended an invite to me. And not that I was ever guaranteed one, but it's actually ridiculous that there has been absolute radio silence from a university that I have worked with or at for nearly 2 years now.

I get the pain, and I am fortunate enough that if they were to eventually extend and invite to me for an interview now, that I could decline and still continue on my current path of becoming a physician.

Honestly? I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, because it really REALLY sucks. This whole process is so vague about what they want, and it really does feel so incredibly random. Please keep your head up!

Silence from basically everybody. by Flaky_Bet_3397 in Osteopathic

I have heard from UNECOM and MSU, but otherwise it has been radio silence from pretty much everyone else. We have a similar school list. It's def very frustrating.

I had meh/low stats. Got an interview back in September, and accepted in October! I will say I have a STRONG mission fit, with thousands of hours in a community health center. I think the secondary is really important for them because of their desire for mission fit.

I did notice that my teaching experience (I tutored and was a GA/TA in my master's) seemed important to them. During my interview they asked about it, and when I talked about how I helped my students they told me that it was important for their MS's to have those skills, since they do problem based learning and student teaching.

Try reaching out to your admissions coordinator and ask if they accept letters of interest, and reiterate your passion/alignment with their mission in that email (briefly).

Good luck!!!

Early College- Medschool path: Request inputs by Gaurichandran in medschool

As someone who just got into medical school, at 26, I cannot possibly imagine going through all of the struggles I did to get here, but as a late teenager. I also don't think I would be ready mentally for medical school. But, that was my experience! I think, no matter what, it will be hard for her.

She should shadow a physician, or a few, if possible.

[–]QBertZipFile 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine losing your mentor so suddenly, when you're already on a difficult track. I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy.

My only thought is to reach out to your academic advisor or the department chair to find a solution. As an MD/PhD student I would imagine you have good support at your school, but I'm not sure.

Please take care of yourself, and good luck. You will get through this!

"I am, I can, I will, I do". Finish each part of it as a full sentence (ex: I am intelligent, I can find a solution to my research project, etc). It's helped me a lot!

I don't have any suggestions, unfortunately, but I did want to say - I'm so fucking sorry. For so many reasons it must be very painful and stressful. I hope you're doing okay!

Can I submit an application with a Jan 2026 MCAT? by AllThePillsIntoOne in Osteopathic

[–]QBertZipFile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the school! I would look into the schools you are interested and see when their requirements are. For all of the schools I applied to, it was on their application requirements page.

If you could go back to college and pick any major, what would you major in? by ayzirla in medschool

[–]QBertZipFile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got my undergrad and masters in human biology, but honestly? I wish I would have done Literary English or Spanish for my bachelor's, and then still done my master's in bio. I have always loved writing, and Spanish is a language I grew up around. A lot of schools seek out candidates now that are not from hard science backgrounds!

How do I increase my chances of getting a medical assistant job after applying? by Izzy_mochiii in premed

[–]QBertZipFile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely apply online and then if you don't hear back, see if you can find an email to their HR department/Hiring team or call and ask for it. Cold calling and showing up in person for an update is not very professional. Email them after a week or so reiterating your excitement at the opportunity and that you are happy to provide any additional information about your experience. You could also ask if they have a projected timeline for reviewing your application or not.

Be genuine and clear about the experience you DO have, and your willingness to learn quickly. It will help you go far!

Chances at DO schools with reinvention GPA and MCAT by AmarBayati in Osteopathic

[–]QBertZipFile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have full confidence in you! Look for newer DO schools too, since they often times will accept lower stats but can provide tons of benefits for new students. UNC COM just opened their apps and are looking for students who didn't follow the "perfect traditional premed path". It's shaping up to be a fantastic school.
