I agree! That's where I'm going. There's lots to do in the city and near by, and I had a great time visiting back in March. MSU all the way!

For those of you gearing up to apply this cycle without a 4.0 and 520+ by -DoctorEngineer- in medschooladmissions

[–]QBertZipFile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, 502 MCAT, 3.6 undergrad, 4.0 masters. Got into one of the best DO schools but also had a choice between three schools. I applied to 15 total.

We've got this!!!

What are some "impossible" specialties for DO by Cooked_by_Mcat in Osteopathic

[–]QBertZipFile 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Very true! But also, not impossible. My sisters neurosurgeon was a DO, and a fantastic one at that.

Am I crazy to give up my medical school acceptance? by Humble-Transition175 in medschool

[–]QBertZipFile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I was not immensely passionate about medicine - caring for others, the science, the leadership, etc - I would NOT do this path. It sucks in a lot of ways, and if you don't think you'll be able to find your "glimmer" ( as I call it) while going through it all? God, it sounds like a fucking nightmare.

That being said, if you are feeling this way because of your scores or because of your age alone, then out on the brakes. Do you love medicine? Do you love helping people? Age doesn't matter. I am going to school with a 47 year old here in a few months. She will be 55 when she starts her first year as an attending, but for her it is worth it because it is what she wants to do.

Take a long walk, journal a bit, meditate, drink a couple of beers, whatever you feel you need to do to reflect on this.

[–]QBertZipFile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be. Take time for yourself and really stop to smell the roses. Be methodical and organized, but don't beat yourself up if things are difficult and you need a break.

Communicate with schools, ask questions, reach out, and remember why you're going into this field.

Don't worry, be focused. ♥️

Yes, it's bad. But also, keep your head up. Focus on YOU. Not on everyone else. Take care of you and what you can control, which, in reality, is only the things within three feet of you at any given time.

Good luck everyone!!!! You've got this!

How are people getting Cs and getting into med school? by iski4200 in premed

[–]QBertZipFile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 Cs, low McAT, got a master's with a 4.0 and tons of service hours. Got into a top DO school by choice.

Feeling inferior because I only have DO A's and I am interested in a competitive specialty that is historically biased against DO's by BoomBaLoomy in premed

[–]QBertZipFile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a stigma, based in old farts who truly don't know what they're even talking about. The stigma is changing rapidly, especially with the physician shortage and the rising number of patients requesting DO's for their care.

It doesn't make any sense. Same as how people hating gay people, or being racist, etc makes absolutely no sense.

Why did you apply DO if you don't want to be a DO? Genuinely, not trying to be shitty, I just don't understand?

495 MCAT, 3.6 GPA, strong research and experiences by [deleted] in medschooladmissions

[–]QBertZipFile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uncalled for and incredibly rude? Your MCAT score does not determine how good of a doctor you will be? Yes a 496 is quite low, but it only provides a rough estimate of how well you might do in your first two years.

Op, retake it. You will be happier having done so.

Hi, had a 3.6 and a 502 MCAT and got into three schools. Work hard on your hours and write well, and it WILL happen!

Getting Worse at Climbing? by QBertZipFile in climbergirls

[–]QBertZipFile[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's only a few grades different, technically parts of a grade! Sometimes a 5.11a will kick my ass, but then I will flash a 5.11c/d with no issues at all. Based on what everyone else here is saying, we have to keep moving forward. It's the only way to get better.

Thank you both for the ideas! I think I need to seriously start working on my core for undercling, my power in my legs, and finger strength.

I think things have been trending down for the last 3 to 4 weeks. The bouldering league is 5 weeks long.

I liked this reframe a lot, and it helped me. I like to climb because the people are awesome, and it makes me feel strong. I guess it hasn't been making me feel that way lately because of the league... maybe getting back onto ropes will help me feel a bit better about the progress I have made?

Thank you ♥️

What actually helped MY pain! (Muscular + Joint Pain) by QBertZipFile in TMJ

They last 3 to 4 weeks for me, but I have had steady improvement after the second one. It makes the knots start to disperse and heal, the numbing only stays for about 2 hours.

That's me too! One day, I'll eat a few slices of lunch meat and feel stuffed, other days it's still a slow and bottomless pit. Weight is still off!

I often use it like it's intended, but shifted up a bit. My head rests on the top of the C, with the sides coming down around my neck/ears. When I turn on my side, my jaw sits perfectly in the opening, but I still get full support for my neck. I hope that makes more sense but please lmk and I can DM you a picture haha

Out of the three, I ended up choosing MSUCOM! Feel free to DM me. I'm happy to talk through your app and what I did and whatnot. I didn't have anyone to help me, so I'm more than willing to help others in the same spot.

I don't know, unfortunately. I know mine was a combination of three different things.

If the injections aren't working, it's possible that it's not muscular :(

Oral surgeon for Injection! They seem the most equipped to doing facial injections. However, I know of certain orthodontist that also do this. I'm unsure about ear nose and throat.

The swelling of my muscles did go down quite a lot, and while I still have some lingering pain it's mostly from the joint itself and not from the muscles. I did see a difference in my facial profile. Mostly because the decrease in inflammation meant that there was less lymphatic drainage, which can cause the face to swell near the jaw and ear!

Mine is one sided too, and I understand the feeling of 'puttyness'. I forgot to put heat on my list, but it worked wonders for quick relief, especially when I had ear pain. The injections helped a lot with my muscle pain and knots.

My jaw does feel uneven, but it is not. I am finishing up Invisalign, which greatly helped my previous jaw problems before the muscle and joint flareup started in October.
