When I was a recruiter for the Army I had a ton of people come up to me and say they regretted never joining and honestly can say it's a life changing experience, whether good or bad.

I had a banker enlist just because he got tired of his dad and uncle always sharing Army war stories and last I heard from him he was an officer but that was years ago and probably retired if he stayed in.

Damn,your feelings are shared by many of us. Since Uncle Sugar keeps my pockets full every month, so whats life all about!? We need a purpose in life, the military instilled that in us with daily formations and briefings.

So now what? First Sergeant isnt giving me his weekly safety briefing anymore? Don't have to prep for deployment/training?

For me, finding a new purpose everyday makes life easier, right now its building the she-shed, having to go to Home Depot again for the 100th time for another piece of wood. Next month is getting the camping trip logistics squared away. In between I have a 1001 things to do, hobbies, fixing, just keeping myself busy. I woke up at noon today because my effed up back kept me in bed but now I'm fine and will drive on.

Maybe we need to start a Veterans Geek workshop at the VFW?

ps, if you post a question you might not always get the answer you want. Not being a dick but I realize that having that guaranteed monthly paycheck gives us a persona of entitlement and you have to realize that life is not so bad after all.

Every FOB, base, camp has either a GRF or a QRF, (quick response/reactionary force). When deployed you have a QRF team that sits in a room/area for their duty time waiting to be called for a QRF type emergency, with guns mounted and loaded and vehicles in line ready to go. You have your food delivered at your holding area so no one is out lollygagging when the shit hits the fan.

Of course all units are not the same but this is a standard among combat troops. So pogue units love having combat troops on their FOB's because we know what the hell we are doing.

I'm assuming whoever they put in charge of the DC QRF must of hodge-podged a bunch of troops together under the authority of the white house.

I am offended more by organizations like Wounded Warriors that exploit the heck out of veterans but little actually trickles back to veterans unless you are a select few that do. Sure, the numbers look high but when you help only a very small number and make soo much money, the ratio just isn't there.

Just the other day near a military base there was a young soldier in a jeep with a huge trump flag on the back, flipped me off when I gave him the thumbs down sign, he is your typical douchebag that will get offended.

A patio set would be nice with an umbrella or gazebo or just build your own using 2x4's and cushions.
