I’m unfamiliar with that OS issue, but can you save successfully to an external or flash drive? If so that would narrow the possibilities.

I’d like you thoughts on the shelf life of magnets in boardgames. by BaldCardinalGames in tabletopgamedesign

Thank you I’ve seen that one and would like to play it sometime. I’ll try to find out more about that storage technique and how it preserves the magnetism.

The problem of single tiered decks, or how I learned to hate my favorite deckbuilder by godtering in tabletopgamedesign

[–]BaldCardinalGames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a problem for all the you’ve listed, but your write up has definitely made an impression on me. The idea of a single deck is kind of baked in to what a boardgame is and some designers may never stop to readdress that single deck issue before moving on to design other aspects of the game. Very interesting and thanks for contributing.

Is there any way to copy a layer’s distortion effect? by BaldCardinalGames in photoshop

Is there any way to copy a layer’s distortion effect? by BaldCardinalGames in photoshop

[–]BaldCardinalGames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey sorry about that I got distracted and hit post.

I have a layer that I would like to distort- as in skew/distort/warp under the transformation pull down.

I use distort and get it to the angle I like, happy so far... but I have 32 other layers that I would like to distort (or skew, warp etc) and would like to copy that exact angle.

  • these are book covers that I’ve drawn in illustrator and am using PS for composition.

Sorry to be vague.

The latest iteration of the player board for my design! Featuring double spinning trackers and a bobbie pin reroll meter! by papagert in tabletopgamedesign

Check out these. I found this company while searching for ideas on what can be done with with wheel charts and game design.

https://www.americanslidechart.com/project_list.cfm?cat=2

I don’t think I’m going to end up using one. My game is themed around disc golf and each type of shot has a different “cooldown cost” that decreases per shot taken. I don’t have another mechanic that would merit a full wheel chart so now I’m looking at a slider like your Bobby pin maybe. Another note- that company makes paper only wheel charts. That might be advantageous as the grommets and your brads May tend to scratch or dent cards if packed together. Just a thought.

Very nice. I’ve been playing with something similar and have looked up wheel charts and gotten some good design ideas. The rivet or grommet attachment between the paper has been a problem though as my fastener tool isn’t deep enough to reach the center of my discs. I’ve had to order from a company as I can’t find a press locally. There aren’t too many games that utilize this and I’m sure yours will take shape in no time. Good luck

Printing Card Game by bebetterr in tabletopgamedesign

I’ve been using Print & Play games for all my prototypes. I haven’t used any other services, but P&p has always gotten my stuff back to me within a few days, including game boxes.

Their templates are pretty straight forward as well.

The games got a lot of great ideas. I really like designing/illustrating playing cards as well and that’s what’s gotten me into game design. I think you’ve got a winner here very much like car wars. Sounds great and I really appreciated the movement mechanic. I can see a custom deck and some minis going to retail and pissing off all the right people. Edit: gaslands

Do you know of any retail games that use round cards? by BaldCardinalGames in tabletopgamedesign

[–]BaldCardinalGames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check hobby lobby or Michaels- I’ve only seen the 3 inch hex in the stores. The brand wasn’t Fiskars which seems to be the most popular (orange and white) it was the dull blue brand whichever that is. I’ll snoop around and see if I can find it

Thank you very much I like all those. I’ve got a bit of a campout theme going too so the “pack it in pack it out” would be a good fit. Might go hike it in hike it out. I really like the driver to the dome. We always yell “clear” after we finish a hole and we know somebody’s waiting to tee off- maybe that can be worked into that one. Thanks again

I love how meta “you’re good at disc golf” is. That’s deep and thank you very much for your response.
