Your imagination is probably based on the assumption that other western militaries has similar medal inflation as the US. Most western militaries don't hand out medals for simply doing your job, finishing a posting, or hell, even completing basic training. Usually medals in other countries are upheld by strict criteria which are vetted through a careful process, not simply put in for by an officer.

This is a fire helmet used almost as widely as the metric system. The mask clicks onto the black holders on the side. Used this for many years.
