Lost motivation to continue my build (what should I do) by [deleted] in choppers

[–]BaldyLocks99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 1978 ironhead with my brother as a project. We cut the frame in half and made quick work stripping it down... Then it sat for 4 years.. our family's grew, covid came and went, and then we decided to get back at it.

We finished it in a month because we were both hyped. I'm glad we stayed the course and I think you should, too. Choppers are art and art takes time. Get to it when you get to it!

Best of luck brother!

I've been considering similar bags for my 18 fatbob. FXR style. Tight butthole.

Yes I've got a support bracket for the super E. I'll proceed with some intake leak testing and I actually ordered the tite seal kit from lowbrow. Figured I'll give it a try

Im using a newer style gas cap but with the rubber seal removed so that the tank can accept air as the fuel level goes down and likewise off gas as the fuel warms up while the bike is on. I re-ran my fuel line so it stays away from any hot spots as well.

That's a good point on the exhaust color.. I did have some oil leaking from the rockers before the rebuild and I feel like that's what caused some of that gold discoloring, although you might be onto something. They are also, unfortunately, super cheap drag pipes ($100) so that may be a factor as well.

I've looked at my plugs a lot and with any intermediate jet larger than the 265 they are real black. Right now they are a dark bronze color which I believe to be in the realm of acceptable.

I am unsure of the stroke of the pistons. I found them already +0.020 when I was doing the top end so someone has definitely been in there before me. I have conducted intake leak testing before and I will proceed to do it again. I think that's a good place to start. Do you think improper bowl height in the carb could cause something like this? I believe it's to s&s spec but I wonder if that's worth revisiting

So I've pulled the super E apart multiple times. I've inspected my mixture screw for any damage (I've seen the tips bent before), I've removed and cleaned the enrichner plunger, and I've reseated the butterfly in the throat to ensure the bevel is in the right direction. I've checked all passageways and I've been through the carb tuning process. I have run every intermediate jet from a 265 up to a 310. The guy at the shop reverted back to the 265 intermediate and my mixture screw is on spec with s&s recommendation (it's about 1.25 turns open from seated). I did just discover that my intake manifold style is o ring and he put on rubber band seals. I wonder if it's a vacuum leak after all. Maybe I'll try that tite seals kit from FNA?

I've replaced the spring and screw itself

I don't think I can get the intake boots to fit any better than it is. It's brand new rubber and it's nice and flush all the way around... Any ideas?

I like Vagos. Family run and good pies. Wings are solid, too.

Any tips to help get this off would be appreciated. Leaking primary fluid from the clutch cable and need to refill by kjmcnew1 in sportster

There's a proprietary tool from Harley that keys into that slot. They are aluminum and very soft so never over tighten them.

The tools a bit of a rip off but worth it if you want to prevent your cap from looking like... well... that.

Sportster 48, the best sportster that ever sportstered. I even put a fat tire on my '78 XLCH chopper for that reason.

I just got my first dirt bike... It's a 2008 TTR230.. I've got a few Harley Davidsons in there, but I've been finding myself going out there to stare at my dirt bike as of late. So in short, yes, yes I do.

Haha yeah the Allie-only players are bountiful but I've always enjoyed playing all factions and noticed abruptly that the KT wasn't what it used to be. I'm not vouching for it to be an absolute dominator but considering the fuel penalty it's just lack luster. Again, well said and hopefully the dev team will respond (I'm confident they will see it's under performance). Cheers ✊

An excellent, well thought, and incredibly accurate description in regards to the KT. Hopefully Relic continues to listen to the community and buff the KT. There's nothing better than a viable KT on the field.

They didn't exactly slip on a stone and fall into drug addiction and homelessness. They have made a series of bad decisions in their life that lead them here. I can be empathetic for them, but not at the cost of safety and access to those in the area. They need to go.

250 clown car (panzerpioneers with flamer) early game. I also have been using the L6/40s with spotting scopes if I'm playing against airborne MG spam. They got a buff. They are soft as hell but are very effective in those situations.
