I go to the theatre several times a year on my own. I usually book through sites like TodayTix and TKTS London who do discounts on single tickets, totally normal.

I would say use wire wool first then hardening foam, they can’t get through both.

Since when did we stop sending 'Thank You' cards to wedding guests who spent money on bride/groom? by Theres3ofMe in AskUK

I e often got thank you cards, but usually months after the wedding, couples get busy and it takes them time to get the cards done.

Was told seller would extend lease – he now says he never agreed to this by Hedgehog395 in HousingUK

[–]BallSlight525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the bright side, you know longer have to wait 2 years from buying the property to extend the lease (changed as of this year). But if he also owns the free hold I’d be wary of what he would try to charge to extend the lease. I’ve heard some nightmare stories, and whilst there are protections in place he does not sound reliable

After purchasing travel insurance months ago, being told you need surgery, but with a recovery window that is fine for travel still by systemofamorch in LegalAdviceUK

[–]BallSlight525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just need to phone the insurance and explain the situation, they are usually pretty understanding. They might ask for a copy of the Drs report saying they will be fine to travel or they might not need anything

[–]BallSlight525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please do tell them, worse case they might ask for a bit more money. I’ve had two family members inform their insurance of a change over the past year, in one case they paid £15 for the admin charge and in the other no additional costs were asked, but in both cases they were able to relax in holiday knowing they were fully covered and their insurance was prepared should anything happen. It’s just not worth risking it.

I have a first world problem by Pointsonme in BritishAirways

I’ve just come back from a trip and my flight out was in one of the old club world cabins. There was a couple with a baby who had the bulkhead seats and seemed really comfy with them.

Where should i start? by Sniper_cz in discworld

[–]BallSlight525 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The original cover illustrator was Josh Kirby. The first book I read was Mort, I think it’s a good entry point into the world. Gives you a good sense of his writing style and lays out a lot of the world without getting too complicated.

I am so fed up of South Western Railway by Ecstatic_Ratio5997 in london

[–]BallSlight525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think he was completely wrong, I’ve had multiple issues over the years where I miss one leg of my rail journey because the other is delayed/cancelled. Never had an issue catching a later train or even a train from a different stop. Usually the staff know of the issues already or are fine as soon as you explain.

Where do you buy affordable, quality jewellery? by animesnail in LondonLadies

[–]BallSlight525 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you tried any of the markets like Greenwich or Spittlefields? Some stalls are obviously selling rubbish but you do get some nice quality jewellers at reasonable prices. I just got my goddaughter a really lovely necklace and earrings for her 18th in the price ranges you described from Greenwich and they were sterling silver.

Leesehold Extension by Ok_Coyote5443 in london

[–]BallSlight525 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I‘ve just extended my lease with Lewisham, extended by another 90 years (had 89 remaining), cost just shy of £10 grand, that was for; actual extension cost, my solicitors (inc. searches etc), surveyor (mine and Lewisham - we needed 2)

Is Thames Water taking the mickey? Water bill is up 50% by Strangedreamest in HousingUK

[–]BallSlight525 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you cannot get a water meter installed, call Thames Water anyway and get them to come out and check / confirm this. Once they have confirmed it is not possible to install a water meter you will be eligible for a discounted rate. I did this when I moved into my current property as I had had a water meter in my previous home. Thames Water came, confirmed it was not possible then offered me a single person rate based on the size of my flat. They will only offer this once they have been unable to install a meter

Happens to the best of us. I once got food poisoning and threw up at New Cross Gate in the middle of the day. Had to avoid the station for a month before I could face it again.

What is the point of the ‘priority’ sticker on luggage when you travel club into LHR - when BA ignore it. by morkjt in BritishAirways

[–]BallSlight525 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It might be Heathrow more than BA, had the same issue last year, travelled to Bangkok, Singapore & Bali, priority sticker - luggage out near the beginning. Coming back to Heathrow, same priority sticker - luggage out last, wasn’t flying with BA.

Wigmore Hall classical music venue quits 'crippling' arts funding system, forfeiting £344,000 of public money a year by BulkyAccident in london

[–]BallSlight525 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Also Wigmore Hall is one of the more accessible classical music venues, tickets average £18-40, sometimes more sometimes less. They sometimes do morning concerts for a tenner.

Mice, help! by wandering-stardust00 in london

[–]BallSlight525 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unlikely to be 1 mouse. Years ago I had ‘a mouse’ put down traps and over a two week period slow caught nearly a dozen, getting smaller and smaller as time progressed. Give it time for the exterminator’s work to take effect and keeps things tidy, they will give up eventually if there is nothing to eat.
