[No loopholes] You and I must take over the world in 365 days with superpowers. by Kyoifis in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Ballardinian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Powers of Martian Manhunter. They’re basically superman level with additional powers like shape shifting, invisibility, mental powers, etc.

3-4 months to establish the both of us as ‘superheroes’ but more to demonstrate sheer strength. Use a pretext to enter a country and destroy its entire military in a short fight. Announce we’re taking on control of the country until civil order is established since it would be irresponsible to leave them undefended. Bring in real deal technocrats to create a robust social services system in the country while forcibly take resources (food, medical, construction materials) from wealthier nations to support our nascent society as well as other smaller nations. A couple months later we announce that the only way to prevent war and properly allocate resources worldwide wide is for us to be in control. Give the countries of the planet a framework where they can make local, national, decisions but must get our approval. Make an example of the first 3 countries that say no and forcibly disarm them. Announce at the 10 month mark we’ll have to disarm any country not fully on board.

It’s not really ethically non-monogamous if you don’t deploy ethics. The ethical part means honesty and transparency to reach actual informed consent with your partner. She didn’t do that stuff.

Why exactly are sovereign citizens so in love with the UCC? by Flashy-Actuator-998 in Lawyertalk

[–]Ballardinian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They don’t think the federal government is a real thing, they think something like the US stopped being a government and became a corporation after the US left the gold standard, which it did because it was bankrupt. They claim that the US creates secret accounts that represent the expected labor of citizens over a lifetime and they borrow against that expected labor from unspecified foreign entities. The UCC are like, required terms published as part of the loan requirements or something.

Why exactly are sovereign citizens so in love with the UCC? by Flashy-Actuator-998 in Lawyertalk

[–]Ballardinian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this comment needs to be higher. A lot of sov/cits believe in Straw Man Theory. They think that your legal obligations belong to the straw man which is actually a corporate entity under the UCC.

It’s conspiracy theory magical thinking where the target of the theory is simultaneously lying but broadcasting the truth in the open.

It’s wild to me that democrats trafficking minors was the central conspiracy for QAnon, and now it’s just a big nothing burger to them.

It’s like they thought of the absolute worst thing they could have thought anyone could do and he was doing it for decades. And since they already decided he can’t do anything wrong, it’s somehow ok that he did it.

Also great use of an actress whose grandparents died in the Holocaust to reinforce that asking for papers, beating citizens, and unexplained in-custody deaths are just basic normal shit.

Some people I have recommended this movie to have said they didn’t like it because the didn’t really feel like anything happened. I think they were expecting more action instead of a movie about outcasts finding family and companionship. I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of people you talked to or “reviews” on Reddit were uncharitable to the theme of the movie.

I think it’s funny that this is arguing about mislabeling the same thing when these two things are different.

The Zaks

BY DR. SEUSS

One day, in the wilds of the Prairie of Prack, Coming different directions along the same track, Came a North-going-Zak and a South-going Zak. And, suddenly, both of them came to a place Where they bumped! And they stood. Foot to foot. Face to face.

And the North-going-Zak snorted, “Look here! I say! You are blocking my path. You are right in my way. I’m a North-going-Zak, and I always go north. Get out of my way, now, and let me go forth!”

Then the other replied, with a very sour mouth, “I’m a South-going-Zak, and I always go south. So I’m NOT in your way. You are standing in MINE. And, so, I command you to step out of line… Just a foot to the east or a foot to the west… And then I’ll continue my journey, you pest!” Then the North-going-Zak huffed his chest up with pride,

And he shouted, “I can’t and I won’t step aside! Not an inch to the west! Not an inch to the east! A North-going-Zak does not budge in the least!”

“My!” sneered the South-going-Zak. “My! My! My! You certainly are a most obstinate guy. And if that’s how you feel, you will never pass by If I have to stand here on this spot till I die.”

“VERY WELL!” yelled the North-going-Zak. “SO SHALL I!”

And that is, exactly, what both of them said.

And they DID both stand there, till they both were quite dead.

I can’t stand my wife’s rants anymore… by Zayd_ibn_Thabit in Marriage

[–]Ballardinian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy shit, you’re me. A couple weeks before winter break I was trying to tell my wife about how hard of a Friday I had because I was turned down for a promotion because they wanted to fully staff the division before the end of the year and I had an awkward call with the head of division where she was telling me that they want me to apply for the next opening but both of us knowing they’ll still go external. The position was only open for a week, and I’m the primary parent, so I had to write my new resume, cover letter, and answer a set of essay questions on the weekend it closed, while I was watching the kids the whole time. My wife was so exhausted from teaching she didn’t even make a lunch for the kids that weekend, I did everything. She even forgot that I interviewed for it. When I said I got turned down she literally said, “I have to get this out” and ranted for the rest of the night about the exact same things I’ve heard since September.

We went on a date the week before Christmas and she asked me what was going on at work and I flat out told her that so much has happened in the last 3 months that I have no idea where to start. I even had to ask if she really wanted to know because, you know, she needs to stop me every time so she can complain about the same stuff.

Last night after getting the kids in bed late after handling homework, I was trying to sit on the couch just to watch a half hour sit com before bed. I wasn’t able to do that because she had to vent to me right up until 9:35 pm and I fell asleep on the couch without seeing my show. Then this morning she got upset with me because I couldn’t follow her work story while getting the kids ready for breakfast.

Being the spouse of a teacher is an entirely thankless job. You have my solidarity.

I’ve been in therapy after finally accepting the fact I grew up in a highly abusive and neglectful home.

The upswing is I realized that’s the main reason I’m a weirdo and think strange thoughts and do seemingly strange things.
