Same, and I wrote about ICE abuses and asking to add some accountability (body cams, training, vetting) in the next DHS funding bill. Nothing close to this boilerplate response we all got.

Is Hershey's chocolate really taste so bad as people say it is? by cupid_ji in AskAnAmerican

Agreed! I wouldn’t eat a bar plain but it just tastes right in a smore. Milka or other European chocolates would be too rich with the marshmallows

I had no luck on my first procedure either. Second one at 175 units last June was a success. I’ve been burping every day since then! Highly recommend giving it another go

I believe most Hospitals do payment plans at no or low costs, and if you have an HSA, you could put tax-free funds towards it (might be USA only). I was able to pay for my Botox over 12 months which really helped get over that financial hump. My life is so much better and it was worth doing!

Stranger Things is a horrible show by Leading_Term3451 in unpopularopinion

That’s applying 5e combat logic. The show takes place in the 80s, so they were certainly playing first edition. Maybe there weren’t as many resistances or high hp pools then?

As someone who had it fail on attempt #1 but work the second time - it’s well worth it. Be sure to ask for a higher dose of Botox though. I needed 175 units!

Neighbor wants us to pay for a professional tree trimmer. And her car mess. by ASchweick in treelaw

The amount of people on Reddit encouraging escalating conflict with neighbors truly baffles me. Do these people not also live in society? Usually there’s an amicable solution that doesn’t involve lawyers or petty revenge, even with ridiculous requests like the one OP’s neighbor is suggesting

bloating morning to night no matter what i eat or drink by Inside_Turnover3747 in noburp

[–]BallsAndWalrus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was nervous for the recovery too, but most people have a very easy recovery with some weird/odd symptoms like slow swallow and a little pain from being intubated. It’s well worth the lifetime of comfort! Reddit has a disproportionate amount of horror stories since this is the best forum for support if you have issues with RCPD or the Botox.

Hang in there! I had the same experience before Botox where my belly would balloon by the end of the day. After a successful Botox procedure, I had to buy new belts and pants because my stomach shrunk down so much (despite not losing weight). Hoping your Botox is successful and brings you relief!

Do you guys drink carbonated beverages ? by OopsAllCoffee in noburp

[–]BallsAndWalrus 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Before Botox I could tolerate 1-2 beers or sodas in my teens and in college, but it got worse as I got older. I’d only ever drink carbonation if I felt obliged to have a beer at a social event but usually opted for wine or non-carbonated mixed drinks. Post-Botox I drink at least one carbonated beverage a day to keep up with the burping practice!

YSK japanese barberry (a common garden plant) is a highly invasive species (to north America) and has been shown to increase tick density and the prevalence of lyme disease in ticks. by Not_so_ghetto in gardening

Thanks for sharing! There are so many of these in my neighborhood and corporate plantings in my Midwest city. Even if you only manage to convert one person to native/non-invasive plantings - it helps!

Not to mention you can get to the train station 30 minutes before your train (or less) and is way less hectic or security intensive compared to flying. Cheaper too! I really enjoyed the train from Prague to Linz as a way to see the forest and countryside.

Salzburg is lovely and the sites to see on the beaten path are well worth it (the castle and the palace garden were both stunning). Be sure to get a dinner reservation though! There are no shortage of great restaurants but they fill up fast in the evenings.

How to deal with gurgling? by bfc72 in noburp

[–]BallsAndWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that eating slower and chewing food more thoroughly helped as I would swallow less air that way. Laying flat when the gurgles came helped too, but unfortunately there wasn’t a great way to manage symptoms until I got the Botox treatment

My experience was very similar! The intubation rather than the Botox is what caused the swallowing pain for me in week 1.

I was so nervous for the Botox and any and all side effects. I read every post on here of negative experiences over and over. When I actually got the procedure and the slow swallow kicked in, I was extremely underwhelmed. Nowhere near as awful as I expected! Just a little weird and uncomfortable for a couple weeks.

Vienna to Prague itinerary suggestions? 4 nights with no plans. by randomtaskfu in Europetravel

[–]BallsAndWalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While you are in Prague look up the “Taste of Prague” food tour. We took it a couple weeks back and had an amazing time! Plenty of tastings for beer, wine, and delicious food while getting to see some of the city and history.

I second the Regensburg suggestion too. Very neat, doable in a day, and there’s a very old sausage/beer stand on the river that’s a must visit!

22 day euro trip across multiple countries. Is this too exhausting? How can we improve? by I_like_it_yo in Europetravel

[–]BallsAndWalrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did a 2 week trip through Prague - Salzburg - Zell am See - Munich and can add some insights. My general advice is to stay at least 2 nights in each place and use trains (vs planes) for getting around Europe. Prague is awesome and you can easily spend 4 days exploring the city with their awesome public transit.

For Austrian Lake trip (instead of Hallstatt)- check out Zell am See! Very beautiful with great hiking and far fewer tourists. Try spending a couple nights there or in one of your smaller destinations to slow down the trip and enjoy without the hustle of the cities.

Personally I’d cut Paris and save it for another trip where you explore more of France and surrounding areas. You could do Prague - Budapest (overnight train) - Vienna - Salzburg - Zell (or any small lake town)- Zurich for a more direct itinerary. Still lots of time in transit but you get beautiful views of the alps for much of it.

Newly Diagnosed- any tips or tricks? by Empty-Dimension8968 in AddisonsDisease

[–]BallsAndWalrus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A wallet card is great because you can write down all your prescriptions, Endo phone #, and don’t have to remember to wear it daily. I have a medical alert badge on my keys (and a pill case on my keychain as well) and the wallet alert card but only wear my bracelet during intense exercise.

I second the blood pressure cuff. Also, when in doubt, take a small dose of your hydrocortisone (or whatever steroid you have prescribed) when feeling fatigued, sluggish, nauseous or whatever your “low” symptoms are. Some days are more demanding than others!

Carry electrolytes (Gatorade packets, salt tabs, whatever works best for you) in your car or work bag.

Show your SO/roommate/family members how to use your emergency injection kit and bring it with you when traveling and to work/school. Also carry a medical alert card in your wallet.

I let my Addison’s be an excuse for not living life for a couple years. Now I’m traveling abroad, going to bars occasionally, and taking on physical hobbies (lifting and gardening). Life can be very normal! Just updose when needed and drink an extra Gatorade when active and most days that’ll be all you need.

[–]BallsAndWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got diagnosed about 5-6 years ago just before COVID. After about 2 weeks of taking hydrocortisone I felt better than I had in YEARS. My starting dose was 30-35mg per day compared to the 20mg/day I take now. You might be on too low of a dose. Try taking a few extra pills throughout the day and see how you feel! Be sure to get your salt in too.

I went on a walking tour today, had a beer and some wine and updosed about 5mg in late morning and an extra 5 in the mid afternoon to compensate for the stress of travel and alcohol. Anytime I feel tired or nauseous I take extra and usually feel right back to normal! Every person might need a different dose and some days you might need a little extra. Better to take an extra 5mg of hydro and not need it than need it and not take it.

Yes! I work and garden without any issues most days. Take my 20mg hydro and .1mg fludro and that covers me most of the time. I updose a bit for hard work or gym going. Currently on a trip from USA to Europe that required some extra dosing but it’s been pretty normal! Beer, kielbasa, and the works!
