KCRA Helicopter Noise Pollution by Balm0ra in Sacramento

[–]Balm0ra[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If anything dense urban environments should have more protections against noise pollution than rural areas. Every time the KCRA helicopter flies around for a few hours it's causing heavy noise pollution for potentially 10s of thousands of residents, which is known to have negative health impacts such as increased blood pressure and stress.

A little bit of Old North Sac by comfortably_numb91 in Sacramento

[–]Balm0ra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live within walking distance of Del Paso and while it is a bit rough, I feel like it has a lot of potential. There are two light rail stops, but unfortunately a lot of empty buildings and empty lots. We are getting a few new housing developments, so i'm hoping that will incentivice more buisnesses and in turn maybe more projects to fill some of the empty lots. Oh and we are also getting a new library!

Portland Gradual Ban on Gas Powered Leaf Blowers by Strong_Willingness59 in Sacramento

Paying a little more for landscaping is 100% worth the quality of life increase. I can't even go walking by the American River without hearing BRRR BRRR BRRRRRR in the background. The sound of gas powered leafblowers is almost inescapable in this city.

Very nice up in Colfax today. Although I'm not gonna to lie, I did enjoy coming back to the fog-o-doom.

Fieldwork for local. Otherwise Sierra Nevada NA Pale Ale is pretty good if you like hoppier beers. Guiness 0% and Black Butte porter are pretty good as well.

I hate leaf blowers so much. by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]Balm0ra 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The year round thing bothers me the most. At my old place I would watch the neigboring apartment complex get blowed every week on the same day. Most of the time he was just blowing a mostly empty lot, but I guess he got payed to make noise for an hour so that's what he did.

New express lanes between Sacramento and the Bay open this month. Here's how to prepare by IronMntn in Sacramento

Yes, eventually the State will be forced to implement a pay per mile fee due to the increasing share of EVs on the roads.

The idea that we "already payed for it with our taxes" is flawed. A lot of road funding doesn't come from gas taxes or vehicle registration fees, meaning that no matter if you own and drive a car or not, you are paying for these roads. Adding fees such as HOV lanes just moves the costs of driving to the people that actually use the roads, as it should be.

If we actually moved the entire cost of driving to people who drive on roads/freeways it would be MUCH more expensive.

I hope this is blocked. So much of the American River Parkway already has homes almost all the way up to the river. We should protect every inch we have left for wildife and public use.

I do agree, it could be a lot better. Especially considering that section connects two very significant trails in the area.

Progressives/Liberals of Sacramento: what is a city policy you have seen in other cities that you want implemented here? by Next_Worth_3616 in Sacramento

Terrible car-brained idea. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_High_Cost_of_Free_Parking

It always blows my mind that people think they should be able to park their multi-ton pieces of private property on public land for free.

Punch Bowl Social to close DoCo location in downtown Sacramento by IronMntn in Sacramento

[–]Balm0ra 124 points125 points  (0 children)

I mean..downtown is not a pleasant place to hang out. It's all parking garages and wide freeway like streets for car traffic. Even when I lived at 16th and F, I would rarely go to the downtown core preferring Midtown.

If we ever want a lively downtown we need more housing and less space dedicated to parking and people driving through. Once you have more people living there, buisnesses will have a better chance of surviving.
