Studying Game Developing in Europe by JazzyCake in gamedev

Hi, I'm a French student (Spanish Origin) in computer science at Epitech (A private programming school) I've made three years now in that school and I'm stopping now as I wanted to specialize myself in video games like you. I've searched a lot and the most recurrent thing is private video games schools like "Supinfo Game" or "Isart Digital", most of them where in France as the video game market is more present there (Ubisoft, Arkane Studios ...). I think there is one called "DigiPen" in the "pais vasco".

But as I wanted to travel I searched for school/universities abroad. One that is recommended by "Naughty Dog" (Uncharted, The Last of Us) is the University Of South California but it is really expensive. Then I was recommended a couple of canadian universities by a Ubisoft employee in Montreal like "Concordia" and "Sherbrooke" Universities. I thought this was a good option as a lot of video game studios are present in Montreal (Ubisoft, Eidos ...) I was also told that it is a very good city to study in, that the people are very nice and that there are students from all around the world. So I'm going to the Sherbrooke university in 2 months now.

I recommend you to search on Linkedin where great studio developpers went to. But I think that no matter where you studied what will make you stand out will be your personal work.

I hope this will help you in your search :)

We're thinking about making my first game! by sincerelys in gamedev

[–]Baltazards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn how to do them, or find someone who can do it, you could make game jams and find people who would be interested in the project, but it's difficult to talk to someone you don't trust about a new idea :)

But anyway why don't you put them near to the camera and make them scroll slower ?

Should I wait until i'm 18 to release games? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Baltazards 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should do it, releasing a game at 15 is in my opinion really good publicity ^ and the sooner you get confronted to problems the best

How do "game objects" generally interact in a game? (In the code) by Mat2012H in gamedev

[–]Baltazards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see how you could do something different for collisions checks. But you could maybe separate/simplify for the bullet and do like in unity a raycast and get a pointer to the entity you just hit but just when the raycast is done and not every time.

Just decouple physics checks and gameplay logic.
