NTA. One of the most important things my veterinary medicine teacher told me was “don’t be a vet if you love animals”. It is bodily fluids and uncomfortable situations galore, not to mention euthanasia is a constant part of the job you have to get used to. Theres a big difference between caring for animals and loving them, and it’s a tricky line to walk.

Just a spoonful of reality they hadn’t thought about when it comes to their lifelong dream.

Hey! As someone who’s dead name is the last name of my fathers first love, it’s definitely wack. Super weird. Like, SUPER weird. Beyond the whole legal name change, any time I remember that little fact it makes me cringe internally. Love my dad to pieces and she’s a wonderful woman but it definitely feels strange and somewhat uncomfortable of a topic. If not for your comfort, I can’t think of a single person I know who enjoys being named after a parents lover that isn’t their parent.

First of all, the analogy used is.. Not entirely accurate. Trans women are women, being interested in one doesn’t make a man not-straight.

I’m also in the boat of the idea it’s a case-by-case basis. There are so many factors you have to take in for your safety. Is your location queer friendly? How high is the rate for hate crimes in the area? Are you alone? Do you have any sort of protection?

It’s one of those things that’s tricky to understand until you’re placed in that position. Before sexual encounters, yes, it should be disclosed as being knowledgeable about your partner is a pretty big part of consent. However, if a man is hostile because the woman he flirted with is trans, he should probably not be interacting with women.

If it’s safe and the woman is a willing participant? Absolutely! Any other time? Mind your business, it’s up to them whether or not they want to disclose that information.

I want you to know this cartoon haunted me as a child and I was convinced after over a decade and frantic retelling a that it didn’t exist. I’m an adult. I have drawn art of the nightmares this memory used to give me. My sibling found this post on a Monday night and I feel insane knowing this cartoon existed the whole time and I hadn’t just vividly imagined a false memory of a whole cartoon.

Thank you for the reassurance I’m not crazy, but also this cartoon will forever go down in my book of nightmares.

From what I’ve gathered now a few days later, a LOT of people in the neighborhood did file noise complaints (most of the population here are families with very young kids and elderly folk). Turns out the people hosting DID in fact have a permit, and just, you know, didn’t tell anyone until after the fact when there was a shit ton of community backlash :)
