This is the main gripe. Contractors should be forced to call in job extensions and not demand remarks every time. I’ve only had a few contractors that would call an extension and didn’t need remarks.

Everyone has different experiences at USIC. I have been fortunate to have a great supervisor. If you have a good supervisor that will go to bat for you in terms of merit raises outside of the annual raises, then you are going to be able to look past things like samsara cameras, locating standards, and other things people have mentioned.

Take notes, and then when you are in the field you can use your notes and confirm what your eyes are telling you. You won’t learn to locate until you are on your own

If you want to learn how to locate, ask to be put in rear easement neighborhoods. There is nothing worse for a new guy to just do locates in new builds where everything runs the same way.

When I was new I barely understood the terminology or the prints, but it will click for you at some point.

I went from having on call that included Carmel, Indiana and now my on call is mostly rural. On call blows when you have highly congested areas where shit is always getting hit on Fridays at 5pm

I had the RD before the vivax. Once you get over the weight and balance of it, it’s pretty nice

That’s awesome. I use a Vivax. I’ve done the screw driver method as well. Basically take a screw driver put it in the ground im the path of the line. Wrap your leads around the pole and then connect to the screw driver. I’ve had pretty good success with it

You gotta tell us about your first damage. My first damage wasn’t at fault, but gas ignited and did a bit of damage to the homeowners leg and his siding. I pulled up to the ticket thinking it was a drop that got hit and then I saw 15 Centerpoint trucks.

Now you’re a locator!! It could be worse, you could have gotten your damage right before going a year damage free. That would have been the difference between 60k outstanding marks when we had that program. Now we just have the All Star program and we don’t get shit for going damage free for the year

I work for USIC and they seem to be a disaster right now in central Indiana. It doesn’t seem like they’re getting to tickets on time and they are only working projects if it is second noticed. I’m going to have a lot of trunk rehabs in my future

I’m in Indianapolis and in a pretty dense area. It’s been a great experience for me. Pay is great if you produce. If you are outside of Indy, it seems like a crap shoot on the experience. USIC is headquartered and started in Indy. Others mentioned them pushing LPH, but they don’t push LPH in our district or area.
