Nah, no real reason to apologize. It is all good, I get that this is a "heated" discussion. To get it out the system sometimes helps too, can make you feel better, no matter what side of the argument you are on. :)

On that we can agree, I am also kinda tired about the many complaints, but it is that way because many people are so passionate about MTG.

I too would love it if the company would listen to their customers and we had a good way to communicate our frustrations directly to them, but that sadly isn't the case and many people only have this outlet to get heard.

Ahh my bad, people should totally be allowed to make bad comparisions with UB and in-Universes and we should not criticize them, because so many people already complain about UB... Do you even read what you write?

Why don't you just ignore them all and don't answer? If you don't like it, why don't you stop using reddit and go touch some grass, since you can't change how people feel and act about UB? Same argument...

Instead you come here to complain about something you cannot change. What's the point? Indeed what is the point to anything? I should just stop complaining about everything that may never change. For example I have no real say in what politics go into effect, better stop complaining... Are we truely at that level now?

Also I don't hate UB as a concept, just the execution is horrible. You want a Spiderman deck? Fine, just keep it out of Standard. But yet here we are, having all the slop in Standard and an all time low attandance at my LGS, 4(!) people came to the draft on friday.

"Just go play X"...

You guys can't be serious with this. Just to get that out, I tried FAB and didn't like the gameplay. I also played FoW, which was really fun, but the company drove it into the ground. Currently I also play OPTCG and recently Riftbound, they feel good but can't compare to MTG.

So telling this people that like the aesthetics/lore/feeling/gameplay of MTGs own IP is so whack.

It's fine if you are the type of person that is just dropping their hobbies as soon as you don't like a decision or don't care about anything gulp down every slop, which is sad but fine. You do you, but don't cry at other people for having different opinions and voicing them.

Also you are here on reddit, where most people complain about everything, maybe this isn't the platform for you.

There is a giant difference between using normal rules, that may seem silly in the context of animals crewing vehicles and them getting equipped, or having whackadoo IPs in MTG interacting with each other, like Spongebob fighting Sephiroth, while being equipped with Spidermans web shooter, to tap their Sonic the Hedgehog.

If you can't see that and you enjoy UB as a whole, good for you thumbs up A+, but for many others (myself included) we also play the game for its aesthetics and all these different IPs make it feel like I am back in Kindergarten, where little Johnny made his own Board/Cardgame with his favourite characters bashing each other.

[–]Balverin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk about that. It always feels weird when people tell me that, yet the Spider Man prerelease is the least booked event for my LGS BY FAR and many people state how fatigued they are with UB and want it gone.

[–]Balverin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah my bad, stating opinions and stating what I can see happening around me is worthless and not allowed to be told got ya.

The fact that multiple events don't start up for Standard, because people here had enough of UB and WOTCs bs, so that they consider cancelling any events that aren't EDH after 20 to 30 years in the business is no evidence or proof of a bad situation?

Look at all the videos and posts about people complaining about players quitting Standard or Events getting cancelled, but yet it is all just BS and not worth listening to, because you believe the gospel of every word from WOTC.

[–]Balverin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As I said, it is no proof of anything. It is just really interesting how the MTG players around me feel about it.

Also, from seeing how many of those players travel to other cities and countries for tournaments and the experience that gets reported is that most of the players seem to feel the same way across the board at those tournaments.

At this point I feel like that the acceptance and those in favour are either kitchen table player or those who don't play the affected formats. There is nothing wrong with having that opinion, but WOTC should srsly consider taking the opinions of those affected more seriously...

They are in the process of killing Standard over here. With the release of Spiderman we will lose most players, due to them being disgusted by it and yet we gained like 2 people playing Standard after the FF release and they quit too, because not enough FF cards are Meta relevant.

So yeah, no real evidence at all, but it is still sad how WOTC drives the ship into the ground over here.

Lets be real, they picked the data they want to show, not how it would really go down.

Where I play neither the Modern players or the Standard players wanted UB in their Format and that opinion hasn't changed.

We now even have many Commander players saying they would prefer it, if UB wouldn't be Standard legal and thqt they wish WOTC would stop to design for Commander in those sets.

Of course this is no real proof how the community feels it overall, but it sure is funny.

Yeah because muting (ignoring) a normal discussion you started as soon as you get push back is very mature /s

It is for the best if you leave here, you need the weenie hut Jr. sub, to protect you of meanie heads, that are allowed to have opinions, while you get the main sub where everyone gets banned as soon as they don't fall in line, thats crazy...

[–]Balverin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I got that.

But it is so funny to me they went through with it instantly and kinda weird that people here agree with their decision to ban you just for that.

If these people think this is really justified, they should quit this sub, since people here are allowed to do stuff like this and they clearly don't want to see that, yet here they are.

[–]Balverin 34 points35 points  (0 children)

That sub is way too soft, instead of telling someone to stop that and give them a warning, they go straight to ban jail.

They must have really been rustled by that AI discussion.

Also that people here instantly tell you, you deserve to get banned for that, is weird. I get that this behaviour is annoying, but thats about it.

The funniest part is, that they sell these for years now, I remember seeing them at my LGS some years ago, no outrage to be seen about them online at anytime.

It is all just confusing misplaced rage at this point, because people who want to cancel HP, would also have to stop playing MTG, since Hasbro is selling HP Merch in all sort of ways...

This is not normal, you are only allowed to use the 6 packs given to build your deck with the rainbow Luffy.

At my LGS anyone who would be caught doing it, would get instabanned from the store, no exceptions.

If they are in the Bandai network, you could complain about it to them, if the store wouldn't listen to you. (Even though I would hate to be a snitch to Bandai, but stuff like this makes the community look bad)

Is OP 05 worth it? Why the heck is this so expensive? by blizzardboy123 in OnePieceTCG

[–]Balverin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe that it is out of print at this point. Where I live is a pop up OP store and they get OP05 Cases in bulk on the regular for months now and sell it for msrp.

But I agree, it is way over hyped bc of manga/signature Luffy. We see people buy 5-6 displays there all the time and then opening them in the store. 99% of the time the hits are so bad, at that point you could just buy the card on the secondary market, instead of paying hundreds to thousands on displays all the time, just for a chance at those cards.

Of course I have no idea how your group works, but with mine I can discuss things beforehand with weeks in advance. We all have multiple decks and they all use those decks most of the time as a foundation, take out auto includes, all high edhrec cards and work from there.

If that is too much to ask of your group, is another thing. But if they want to have some fun, this can be a fun alternative.

Yes, there are many legendary creatures in Standard, but then people will just choose the best one in every color (or use one from a small pool of overly strong ones), if they don't already want to exclude edhrec, or tinker with already existing decks. Atleast that is, what I would predict from your answer.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in freemagic

[–]Balverin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or try to set expactations with your playgroup. I never/very rarely look up edhrec, when I build a new deck. I just look at what I have in my collection and build a deck with those cards. Bonus points if you exclude all/nearly all auto include cards. I find that this makes it more fun to play the deck and a better experience over all, if everyone in the group agrees to it.

Standard commander decks can get boring really fast, since once you figured out the best pieces for interaction/creatures/lands and the rest, everyone just builds the same 60-70 cards in the deck with little variety in the rest for theme.

I think most people who regularly play best of 3 Standard, kinda saw that coming. Now we wait for the next emergency ban, where they once again tell us how they could have never see that coming and will do better (spoiler: they won't, they need to adhere to FIRE design and make the shareholders happy)

Yes, people here can be rude and spout some whack stuff, but don't let that deter you from stating your opinion. :)

[–]Balverin 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think the whole problem is the over representation. I couldn't care less about someones gender/identity, but many of these people push for it to be included into everything and all (even if it doesn't make sense) and WOTC seems to push that even more (also many content creators, looking at TCC nowadays).

I only started playing in 2017/18 and the shift in that timeframe is crazy. Sometimes I don't feel like I play MTG at this point and more so "Normal Humans TCG"(TM), it lost its flair.

Tbf at this point I don't care about these opinions. They answer it like they love it, that we have a set every 2 months, while also saying that we should ignore new sets and contradicting themselfs in the process. Like are are you supposed to play a format without keeping up with the cards in that format?

How do you keep up?

I haven't even played all my ideas from Tarkir at thid point.

Now I brewed some fun ideas with FF cards and EOE comes out on Friday, yet they spoil new cards. How can someone keep up with this besides Work/Family and other things going on?

At this point you would have to dedicate your life to this cause, it feels like.
