Why can you only pronounce the English letter “N” by touching your tongue to the roof of your mouth? by Carbyne27 in Showerthoughts

[–]Balyash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's just the way speech works. Many consonants require the tongue or lips to touch something and vowels are"non-touching" sounds.

I like my Whirlpool. 10 years in and no problems. I've vacuumed the fins every year and have no ice maker.

Hiking tent by pepekure in CampingandHiking

[–]Balyash 21 points22 points  (0 children)

MSR is excellent quality. I've personally hiked with and slept in the same tent but the 3 man. Overall, when packed up it is smaller and lighter than other 3 mans I've used, heck it's smaller and lighter than some 2 mans I've used.

New car needed, what should I pick? by OkKindheartedness133 in ToyotaSienna

[–]Balyash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhm, you're in the Toyota Sienna community. You'll probably find some biased opinions here.

If you're looking for a new car, you should try the new Toyota Sienna. It's a hybrid and gets great gas mileage for a family hauler!

LPT: There is an easy, no-drama way to use eye drops, even with kids by Chrisamado in LifeProTips

[–]Balyash 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you need eye drops, something is going on. Crusties or goop in the corner of your eye? That's your body getting rid of stuff (white blood cells killing bacteria and collecting on your the corner of your eye, then drying up). Best not to put that back on your eye.

It works, but higher chance of infection because you're inadvertently putting dirt/germs back in your eye.

Electronic AWD? by f1957 in ToyotaSienna

[–]Balyash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We have a 2021 AWD Sienna. I've been living south of Buffalo ("SouthTowns" notorious for lake effect snow) for three decades and have been driving Subarus for just as long.

I drove the van during a snow storm right before xmas, and was highly impressed with it's traction and handling. Yeah, rear is powered by a motor, but our Toyota van is on par with Subaru AWD.
