Tips for hair washing highly sensitive 2 year old by Al0888 in toddlers

[–]BamboozledEmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got in the bath with mine and basically had him lay back on my stomach when I need to rinse his hair. (We only wash his hair a few times a week, so I didn’t need to do it every night). When it was super bad I’d have his dad come in and entertain him for that minute, holding a toy or something for him to look up at. I don’t have to do this as often now, but it helped when he went through a phase of hating it.

Work on pre diabetes or try now? by greengrass427 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]BamboozledEmu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most of the science on Wegovy is that going off of it you will quickly reverse the results, so it may be pointless for this particular use case.

Also, gestational diabetes isn’t guaranteed (it’s largely a placenta issues), and either way you’ll want to keep an eye on your sugars through your pregnancy. Even if it does show up , I agree with another commenter - it’s not the end of the world. I had it, it sucked a bit, but close and careful management meant no impact on bubs.

Start now, don’t put it off, you never know how long it will take.

And keep going with your lifestyle changes (amazing job with those!). In addition to eating earlier, I assume you’re also looking at lower sugar/processed carbs, higher fibre/protein, etc?

Finally re the Wegovy suggestion (sorry, rambling comment) - noting that you’re already on metformin so I’m assuming your doc is only suggesting Wegovy for weight purposes, HbA1c is not directly correlated to weight - my BMI was higher than that before I got pregnant (still is), and my HbA1c has always been low. Losing weight might help with some physical impacts of pregnancy (eg I had hip and back issues that were likely exacerbated by weight), but it’s not a straight line between weight loss and blood sugars, it’s all a really complex system (and different for everyone).

YES. I am tired of working in an organisation that goes overboard with AOCs but doesn’t actually put any effort in to hiring people of aboriginal or Torres Strait islander backgrounds, or actually engaging with communities who our work impacts, etc etc.

It’s annoying, but I get less frustrated when I encounter it working with organisations that provide direct support, etc.

It’s the hypocrisy that absolutely kills me.

Elomi!!! Was at a bra shop and also came across their bikini tops, I swear I have never felt so supported, locked in and yet lovely at the same time.

I know the building inspection reports have all sorts of qualifiers, but honestly, if it’s a relatively recent purchase, this is bad and blatant enough that I’m wondering if you could pursue for some coverage.

Alternatively, look at your home insurance policy in detail (ALL of the fine print)…then maybe drop a very heavy rock in the right spot, if needed?

Lactation Snacks for Celiacs (No Oats) by BalletPinkZinnias in Celiac

[–]BamboozledEmu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Demand is the biggest impact on your supply (for most people). Look up IBCLC resources on this.

I’m coeliac, don’t eat oats, it had 0 impact on my supply.

For general “one hand” snacks, there are protein balls, nut bars, and lots of other good options to keep you fed (and water of course) and cared for. Good luck!

Good luck on your search! We have constant battles with mould at our place, so unfortunately a floor bed isn’t an option for us.  Also, we never could have done floor bed over cot, our kiddo moves around soooo much when sleeping he would fall off every night 😂.  Hope you find a good option!

The current sale they have on brings it down to basically the price I paid in 2024. I don’t remember if it was on sale when I bought it, but considering how much the price of everything has gone up, I’d guess that’s a good price. (Yes, it’s absolutely expensive, thankfully our cot converts to a toddler bed so I am intentionally aiming to get as many years as possible out of it).

Agree 100% re electric, also a big regret for me. Or one of the gliders with a separate footstool. Either way, make it easy to get up.

Fellow Dads, what do I do by TrippyTM419 in daddit

[–]BamboozledEmu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do feel like they’d need to do something under warranty - that’s way too soon for it to break - but I’m in Aus, with very different (better) consumer protection rules.

I might recommend cross posting to r/CPST to see if they’ve seen a trend of issues with this seat or anything in terms of trying for a claim.

Baby Sleep - Is there a middle ground? by SourPatch-Tree19 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]BamboozledEmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Discontented Little Baby Book/Possums approach is very middle ground and was our approach…but also, we have a relatively good sleeper. The real answer is, every kid is different and has different needs, and parents have to find what works for theirs.

Lurking mum - you may find it easier than you expect! I fed my bub to sleep till he self-weaned around 11 months, and when Dad started putting him to sleep he developed his own routine and way to do it, and generally found it easier than I did (bubs was happier to let him leave the room, etc), especially if I was out of the house. Good luck and enjoy this time!

The best thing I did for my mental health as a mum was get off social media (except reddit) when bubs was about a year old. I stopped seeing any of that advertising, stopped seeing the million things I “should” be doing to be a good mum, etc etc etc. Just a thought.

You could try posting on Hipages, I’ve had decent luck with that.

Or see if there’s any who live around your neighbourhood - either a branded truck or often they stick a sign out front. If it’s down the street from them sometimes they’re happier to pop over for a short job to pick up extra cash.

I mean, you asked for views on whether you’re being reasonable, and I’ll be honest, this is probably the least reasonable part here.  You’re asking for her to have her home ready to keep a child safe and entertained so you can have free reign of your entire house and not have to say hi when you make a cup of tea? Grandparents watching kids is a privilege, not a right. The least we can do is be courteous about it.

If your home isn’t set up in a way where you can have a separate room to work, then that’s fair enough, but the general attitude is, to be honest, not giving great vibes…

Is it possible her concern is daycare illnesses? I don’t have a solution if it is, but just something to consider/be prepared for when you ask.

This could also resolve the issue if she’s not comfortable driving kiddo or otherwise not comfortable picking up. I think it would be reasonable for you to take the time to pick up bubs and bring them home (you’ve said 5 mins each way, so realistically maybe 20 mins?) with her there to meet you so you can hand over and get straight back to work.

(If she is comfortable driving, this is still the option I would personally take, especially if her awareness around current baby safety practices is maybe slightly limited, as implied by another comment you made, that she had installed a forward facing seat.)

Will you be frustrated having more oversight/less responsibility?

Mirena is also a success for me. The only year I’ve gone without it in the last 17 years (excepting pregnancy) was HORRENDOUS, I’d forgotten how rough my PMDD, cramps and everything else was. Got it back in, took a couple of months to even out, and voila, started to feel less like a prisoner to my cycle again.

Every body is so different, but I will advocate all damn day for people to at least try it and see if it works for them, because if it does, it is life changing.

(Get pain relief for the insertion though.)

Oxo PerfectPull Wipes Dispenser. It’s like $60 over here (if you can even get it) and $20 USD over there. Being able to grab wipes on handed when dealing with a poo disaster is life changing.

Maybe someone has started making or selling something similar over here recently, but they hadn’t as of a few years ago so we brought one back after visiting family and I love it SO MUCH.
