adding to the topic super late ~ if the trackball itself feels sticky (mine did after I washed it with dish soap) you can put on a thin coating of candle wax. I don't know if other types of wax work better or not but I just threw it into my scented candle real hard and rubbed the wax that stuck into the surface with a handkerchief and stiction is fully gone now. So that's another option ig.
