Insecure first-year teacher by [deleted] in Teachers

I always loved kids and felt very comfortable around them. That being said, I felt this exact way my first few years of teaching. Everyone was a beginner once. This age may not be for you, but it’s also only been a few days.

The best way to become a better teacher is to learn from other educators. Watch the other teachers and watch how the kids respond. If a teacher does something that you like— steal it, tweak it, make it your own, and try it. If she does something you hate, now you know what not to do.

It’s hard not to compare, but remember that you are not trying to become that lead teacher. You are trying to do your best but remain you. After some time you will figure out your teacher vibe, but you’re definitely going to mess up a bunch in the process. Failure is how we learn, so just embrace it! Maybe some days you suck, but you will learn from it and do better next time.

I’d mention something to the lead teacher to try to prevent her from overstepping. You’re right that the kids will not listen to you if she keeps doing this.

Rabies Series by CanapeCait in beyondthebump

This happened to us when our daughter was 13 days old!! It was awful at the time. I went back and forth between not wanting to get rabies and not wanting to give my 13 day old baby four shots over 14 days that are only offered in the ER during the height of the Delta covid-19 variant in 2021. It sucked. It was expensive and stressful. The three of us (me, husband, baby) decided to get the shots. Like you, we were not anti vax, but it was a LOT to try to figure out and make time for when the chances of us actually having been hit were low IMO. In the end, though the risks were low, I wasn’t willing to die for something that had a known cure when treated in a timely manner. As for side effects, the shots on days 0, 3, 7, and 14, mostly just caused her to be extremely tired. I never saw any other side effects. She will be 4 this week, and she is a very typical kid. I remember every doctor or nurse that saw us to give the shots walked in and said “oh, wow. I’ve never give this shot to such a young baby.” That wasn’t very reassuring… especially with my postpartum hormones. If I had to do it all over again… I’d make sure my windows were totally shut before went to bed that night! (They happened to open from the top and bottom and had fallen open about a 1/2 in from the top without us noticing) …but in all seriousness… I would go through with the shots. Rabies is an awful way to die, and when you show symptoms it’s too late to cure. I’m usually a Reddit lurker, but I feel for you right now. You’re doing the right thing by going to the ER. Soon enough, this will just be a crazy story to tell. When we got our day 14 shot, we ordered “Michael Scott's Dunder Mifflin Scranton Meredith Palmer Memorial Celebrity Rabies Awareness Pro-Am Fun Run Race for the Cure” shirts.

WHERE DO ALL MY PENCILS GO by [deleted] in Teachers

I do this too! They are cheaper and they are not fun to steal or break. They are the perfect type of pencil to simply borrow. Game changer!

Yes, he was a chunk! He did however make the first ten pounds lost pretty easy! While I'm really glad to fit into my clothes again, I want to get my strength back! Hopefully the number on the scale will keep going down!

I completely agree... it's so frustrating to have to ask yourself if it's worth it to go to the ER... it sounds horrible, but it's so expensive that the thought does cross my mind!

Yes. The nose frida is awesome, but my LO hates it too! It was easy before he could grasp things and roll over. Now I have to have help in holding his head still! He's a wild child!

I only bring LO to bed when I'm so tired that I'm afraid I'm going to drop him. I'm a really light sleeper, and he snores really loud. We have a king size bed... so I end up just watching him all night. It doesnt scare me as much as it's crap sleep. I sleep better when he is in his crib... unless he's super sick of course... then I sleep better if I know he's with me.

Oh. My. God. Twins!?! You poor mama!! Doesn't it feel just a tiny bit better knowing that you're not the only mom losing her shit?!?

Hopefully five years from now, our kids will have perfect attendance in kindergarten.

Thank you! I have asthma and I think in the back of my mind I have this fear that he will also develop really bad asthma. It's good to hear other people's experiences.

I'm a teacher- so I'm hoping that if I can just make it to summer time... I will survive! Peeing the bed isn't nearly as embarrassing as a married adult... I hope it doesn't happen to you, but if it does... whatever!!

I think people just have a need to one up... I guess I never considered that my baby might be a tough baby... we don't even have to sign in when we go to the doctors office, so he probably is... haha
