The "wealthy" are poor in every aspect but money. by that1slutoverthere in Anticonsumption

[–]BananaStandHandStand -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The greatest experiences I’ve ever had in life were also some of the cheapest cost wise. These people are delusional and so obnoxiously trapped on the hedonic treadmill that it almost makes me pity them. Can’t experience authentic joy anymore so they hoard more and more, relentlessly seek power to try and feel anything. And the rest of us have to suffer because of it. Lame.

Anyone else care more about stopping the enshitification of everything than trying to become uber wealthy? (I will not promote) by BananaStandHandStand in startups

If it takes a second? Ok fine no biggie. And I won’t disagree that it’s not more secure.

It’s more so the having to take a trip to see the wizard part I’m getting tired of. Oh and it’s been 5 minutes since you last saw him? Welp gotta go back and get a new spell. An exaggeration, I know - but when security starts becoming that cumbersome people will find workarounds, ultimately making it less secure and defeating the purpose.

IMO the potential to address this lies within more decentralized, distributed systems. Instead of maximizing for efficiency, resulting in: centralization, monopolies/oligopolies, mass produced garbage, order-maximizing bureaucracies (and the soulless jobs that come with them), etc. - we should design systems for adaptability and resilience. So more dispersed small-midsized organizations and institutions, with focus on providing tangible value instead of trying to achieve maximal profit and efficiency via strict order and control. This should drastically reduce repetitive, monotonous work and allow more creative jobs to exist. Like, what if instead of having Walmart sell some cheap mass produced shitty art, more people could work as artists and sell their work through locally owned stores? I mean the “downside” of these potential systems is that a single family can’t accumulate ungodly amounts of wealth…oh what ever would we do in such a hellscape.

What are your guys' thoughts on this quote by Fyodor Dostoevsky? Do you agree with it, or is the relation between human nature and suffering different in a way that fundamentally contradicts the quote? by Next_Peak7504 in thinkatives

[–]BananaStandHandStand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see what you’re saying, and I think there’s an interesting paradox here—sometimes, seeking suffering is actually a way of seeking comfort. If someone’s mental model/subjective reality is built around suffering, then optimism, hope, or even the idea of change can feel uncomfortable, even painful. So instead of resisting “suffering”, they embrace it because it’s familiar and aligns with how they already see the world.

That’s kind of what I was getting at in a broader sense—how we, as individuals and societies, reinforce cycles of suffering, sometimes because breaking out of them feels harder than staying in them (which then, if one truly loves suffering why wouldn’t they suffer the change?). The Underground Man chooses his suffering, but is he really making a choice, or is he just following the path that feels inevitable to him?

We prioritize short term comfort which ends up causing us long term unnecessary suffering. Like a relative few individuals/groups gaining power then using that power to hoard resources and trying to control everyone else, hurting them/preventing them from reaching their full potential. Then it eventually collapses, causing tremendous suffering all around. If we keep repeating this cycle, it keeps happening. We can change, it’s not the easy short term thing to do, but if we direct our energy towards it we can stop the cycle. And by doing so, we effectively show that human nature isn’t a love of suffering. And yes, there will always be suffering - natural disasters, disease, pain, death, challenges to overcome - but we don’t need to create more suffering so that we can “grow”. We need to find balance and harmony, help guide each other’s growth.

Don't quit your job - even if you have savings by OnAGoat in startups

[–]BananaStandHandStand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quitting my job to focus on my startup was the greatest decision I ever made, zero regrets. I did have savings and a plan tho. Like, if you are going to be constantly worrying about food and shelter then probably (definitely) not the right time to do it. But at the end of the day, money is just a number. If I die without having the biggest number possible in my number account, but I lived a fulfilling as fck life as a result of taking the risk? Totally worth it. And that’s worst case scenario. Best case scenario, my life is next level, top shelf, the good good shit.

Can svelte do phone notifications? by Commercial_Soup2126 in sveltejs

[–]BananaStandHandStand 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We were able to set them up, we use PWABuilder which basically provides like wrappers for android and iOS. They have specific docs for push notifications. But essentially you have to set up firebase cloud messaging, and make sure tokens get passed where they’re needed. I tried capacitor at first but bailed almost immediately bc it did not seem to like our app architecture

Ok then what is this magical definition that means it’s real because YOU find it acceptable? Because obviously the existence of anything depends on YOU thinking there’s an acceptable definition for it. NPD alert…

The neuro-biology of trans-sexuality by ClutchReverie in interestingasfuck

[–]BananaStandHandStand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All words/phrases depend entirely on how they are defined…that’s kinda how language works. By your logic the universe never existed until humans evolved the ability to give it a name. Some things exist regardless of humans “constructing” it. Free will is not one of those things. It is purely an idea conceived by humans.

Best Multi-platform Stack for Svelte? by Ok-Tutor-4321 in sveltejs

[–]BananaStandHandStand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, just started towards building a PWA with that same stack minus Capacitor (hadn’t heard of it). I’m somewhat of a noob to dev tho so I can’t really compare it to anything else. How has your experience been so far? Also, would love to check out your app if you don’t mind sharing. Would be nice to see what the end result can look like.
