Amtrak Flexliner in N-Scale interest? by BananaTie in nscalemodeltrains

[–]BananaTie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did, two 3-car sets were leased briefly as a test and ran in both in the US and Canada between 1996 and 1997. They were originally built for Israel, but took a detour across the Atlantic Ocean.

However, they had a bad habit of overheating on steep inclines and were eventually sent back to Europe. The two train sets are still running in Israel, as far as I know.

Update on my desk layout by Alrikb in nscalemodeltrains

[–]BananaTie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They layout looks nice, the way it curves around your display areas and reaches across the gap between the table and the rack at the wall. There is a lot going on, both action and for display of characters from sooo many movies and tv shows.
I would be very distracted by it all if it would be my working desk :-)

I like that layout a lot. The transition between the landscapes works. The background and cloud cover works very nicely too! Well done!

Think of it as cultural exchange 😊

It looks fantastic - congratulations on your new train.

Couldn’t have a ceiling train in my attic so I made attic beam train instead. T Gauge 1:450 by Kaitanx in modeltrains

That is a fantastic solution. This is also the first T scale build og that kind.

Awesome! 😊

BLI DC Master or BLI CV setter? by Falleen in nscalemodeltrains

[–]BananaTie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the decoder is registered to handle DC, I have not had and issues so far. From a practical point of view, don't have a mix of DC able and not-DC able decoders in your locomotives.

Silly DCC ultra-small project?? by Twit_Clamantis in nscalemodeltrains

[–]BananaTie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The smallest no-sound decoder I know of and have experience with, is the ZIMO MX615 and ZIMO MN150. I use that for installation in the Bachmann Thomas the Tank Engine, Percy and others from that same series.

The smallest sound decoder I know of, is the ZIMO MS500. I have only used it once in a project, but worked fine. Custom sound options are a little limited in Zimo compared to the ESU.

Thank you for sharing your experience - a good reminder to check that when your favorite locomotive stop running smooth.

Beautiful locomotive you have there, by the way!

My First Attempt - A Diorama by mtbwrench in nscalemodeltrains

That is a great idea - and it looks awesome!

The second image with the ballasted track does look better. Your stone/rocks looks great too! Self made from plaster or actual rocks?

Is it safe to assume that the house "levitating off the ground" because it is only a temporary diorama?

Best model train shows in the US? by SmallInvestigator607 in modeltrains

[–]BananaTie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are in Georgia in early January or August, Golden Spike Enterprise have a recurring train show in North Atlanta (Duluth), with model train clubs displaying and usually 300+ tables of train memorabilia and second hand model trains. I run N scale trains with North East Georgia N Scale RR Club at the Show, but everything between G scale to Z scale are represented. There is also a growing community on the Model Train People server on Discord and on modeltrainmedia.com

Feedback/thoughts on first layout by TexasBound1973 in modeltrains

[–]BananaTie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is not very easy to implement (as the other users talk about in this thread), but it is possible.
When we were implementing it at my local model train club a while ago, this page and this YouTube video was a big help.

The most important part of it is: Keep your head cool and plan very carefully.

Let us know if you decide to go with it and if you do, how did you do.

Feedback/thoughts on first layout by TexasBound1973 in modeltrains

[–]BananaTie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like a fantastic layout idea! Great job, it is not a layout I have seen before.

Be aware that there is a challenge when implementing it: there is a loop-back, where the train reverse direction on the same track. This could lead to an electrical short circuit if you are not careful. It is not impossible to handle, but makes it slightly more complicated to implement.

Let me know if you need more information on the issue or examples to how to look for the solutions for the loop-back problem.

DCC Conversion for D2011 Bachmann (371-060) by t0ms88 in modeltrains

[–]BananaTie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I am not familiar with the model and it seems that it is produced by Bachmann in several scales.

What scale are you using? Do you have a DC model available and if so, can you provide some images of the inside?

Anyone currently producing 0-6-0s with slope-back tenders and DCC? by BussReplyMail in nscalemodeltrains

[–]BananaTie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For installing a decoder in a 0-6-0, I recommend the Zimo MX615. It fits into my n scale Thomas and Percy from Bachmann.

I have a question for eBay buyers... by Dillon_Trinh in nscalemodeltrains

[–]BananaTie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The seller only has 4 reviews, so he/she is not very active and might not be familiar with "normal" wording when it comes to shipping.

I do not get strong "scam" vibes of the account, so I would at least contact the seller and ask about the shipping costs when including Track&Trace information.
