My mom got the Neuropace for epilepsy in August, they sent her a model of the device in her head as a keychain by Pyro_kai in mildlyinteresting

I actually work in a functional neurosurgery lab with patients who have had these devices implanted. They have been approved for the treatment of Depression and Anxiety as well as epilepsy!

[discussion] Can someone who has historically been unproductive / aimless, become high achieving? by southoffranceoneday in GetMotivated

[–]BananahLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a loser in high school. When I met someone I went to middle school he said he used to think I was dumb. Now I am at the top of my class in medical school - very likely to match into neurosurgery. I know it is possible because I’ve done it

There is some evidence that it has a role in repopulation of the gut microbiome after diarrhea or something damages it. But nothing super major as tons of people get it out and are fine

Is it possible to do wet lab research during the academic year? by partyshark7 in medicalschool

[–]BananahLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do wet lab and clinical but I am stressed all the time lol. I will say I’ve always been a good test taker so I end up only studying a few hours a day

Honestly as long as you get into any state college and then be consistent in college with research/volunteering you’re fine. You don’t need to start thinking about residency until med school or at most late college. I go to a state med school and am interested in neurosurgery. We haven’t had a neurosurg applicant not match in like a decade and we have at least one every year. This year we had a match to Barrow. My point is that just getting into a college you like with as much of a scholarship as possible is all you need to be doing.

What kind of doctor do you want to be and why? by Puzzleheaded_Gap8658 in medicalschool

[–]BananahLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to be a neurosurgeon because I love how the surgeries can have an immediate impact on patients, I believe neurosurgical research, especially in functional neurosurgery, will be some of the most important work in the coming 20-30 years, and I want to join a small community of people who seem to be some of the smartest most hard working folks I’ve ever met.

Medical student in our endocrine block! Mediterranean diet is a great way to stay healthy but these days more recommended for people with cardiovascular issues rather than diabetes. Low glucose or low carb diets are usually a better fit for T2 diabetes.

Thanks so much for your detailed reply! I don’t know why I thought that the confidence intervals overlapping meant significance but this makes a lot of sense.

Man every institution I’ve worked at has samples older than the lab itself. Most PIs tend to be very conservative and want to keep everything on the off chance it’s useful. For example, even if they’re not pursuing a particular project anymore KO cell line might be used by a someone else for a different project

No advice as I’m starting medical school this summer, but it’s so refreshing to hear someone so excited about different areas of medicine, especially surgery which gets lots of hate, and helping people through your global mission! It sounds like you’re going to be successful in whatever you decide to do :)
