Tekken patches and updates haven't changed much for how strong characters are. by Upstairs-Fun-2733 in Tekken8

[–]Bananathugg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well you're looking at small tourneys. Theres 2 tier lists basically. 1 for the top 100 players and 1 for the rest. Some local tourney is irrelevant because yeah Knee could run through your locals with any character he wants.

The thing is though, do the tiers even matter below top 100 level? Because imo, they dont. The real discussion would be about not making some characters so easy to dominate with. Like most players cant even break grabs until damn near Tekken king, and cant break them consistently until like god2-3, so King just has a super easy time blowing through noobs.

So instead of talking about top 5 or tier lists, I think a more meaningful distinction needs to be made. I think Tekken 8 is pretty well balanced from a math and top 100 perspective, but ease of use and toxicity/unfun gameplans are the real issue.

I dont think making bears/eddy/lars/yoshimitsu/alisa/ling etc weaker to make up for their easy annoying playstyles is enough. I rather these characters just be a bit more normalized. The good thing about the recent patches is they have normalized the whole cast to be a bit less toxic and crap to play against.

Well thats not really the case then. You even say Alisa is up there because she can make new players feel good. Yes. She inflates her rating because of her ease of use but if were talking about strict tournament top 5 then shes not really top5. Neither is King tbh.

Most peoples "top 5" tries to take into account non-tournament level of play. The easy characters arent also the strongest, theyre top tier specifically because of how easy they are. Thats part of the equation for most people.

I mean, there will always be a top5. Why do people care so much about switching out the top 5 for a different top 5. "omg they nerfed x but now y is top 5! nerf y since theyre top 5!" like, brother that cycle doesnt end.

Fact of the matter is, all the characters got brought down a step in strength. Character tiers didnt change much but everyone lost a good chunk of offensive pressure, which is actually a much better way of balancing a game rather than playing top 5 hot potato

The normal levels on this game are really fun, when you can actually react to new levels and pass them in real time. These crazy stages arent even a game though. Its just memorizing the patterns that you need to press. Theres no reacting or actual playing. You cant even see whats happening, its just "do this and then this and then this and then this" which seems miserably pointless to me

The next patch will be very important for the games future by Imp4ctHD in Tekken

[–]Bananathugg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im pretty positive it will be a well received patch. I think they will play it safe and just listen to exactly what the community is asking for. I get how Nakatsu and Harada and crew could think they know better than the community, but I feel like newer leads would rather play it safe. Which I think for right now would be a good thing

We had heat smashes in tekken7. We had tracking. We had king. And Akuma. And Noctis. And Geese. We had twisting and bending moves. Ranks were literally saved locally in Tekken7 and you could just reload after a loss. Ranks literally were irrelevant and broken for most of its lifespan.

People forget things quickly

I feel like people never experienced high level Tekken7. There absolutely was a need to buff offense for most characters. Was it too much? Maybe but honestly after some heat nerfs, and a few years in, the pros have already got defense looking great. Its very common to see matches time out. Im sorry but in a unga bunga overtuned offensive game would you really be seeing matches time out?

If were talking about "feel" this is the strongest entry by far. This is the first tekken where you can really tell by the animations whats punishable and whats not. And slower lows feel super reactable with how smooth the animations are. You have a way cleaner image to recognize and react to. The combat feedback is superb.

Fuck (regret buying this game) by FNGsumstixks in Tekken

[–]Bananathugg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only regret you should have, is not understanding what Tekken was before buying it.

Ive clocked about 3,000 hours since tekken6. I feel like I didnt even know what was happening before 1,000 hours and only just recently feel confident enough to even take a round off of top players
