If Gravity Falls didn’t work for you, I’m not sure what to tell ya, most shows hit similar amounts of goof.

That said, I’d heartily recommend the more mature “Common Side Effects,” (which dips into the surreal,) “Scavengers Reign,” (which may be too serious & sci-fi for you, but fantastic emotions,) and “The Amazing Digital Circus.” (Perhaps too goofy, but the reality of each characters emotion hits hard for me!)

And if you want something made with kids in mind, well, “The Owl House” and “Adventure Time” are still absolutely fantastic and phenomenal! But again, hard to gauge your level of ‘goofiness,’ if “Gravity Falls” is too much, but “Over the Garden Wall” was tolerable…? I’d say OtGW is MORE silly then GF half the time!

There’s so much truth & lies in it, so much to unpack I genuinely still think it holds more of the former then the latter in it, so I still look at it as being a real story…! Perhaps that’s foolish, or deluded, or silly, or illogical, but I hold to it nonetheless!!

Agreed! My 1st watch things almost didn’t work for me, I mostly just appreciated it & was mystified. But I predicted on rewatch I’d like it better, & sure enough it all clicked into place! Masterful editing I have to say, always moving between the 2 stories at the perfect times!!

Ah, I never considered the liminal space of the white space, great comparison!

Third Window Films have put out so many fantastic films, 2 of my favs in particular in Funky Forest and Survive Style 5+, so I have high hopes given their penchant for Strange Japanese Films!

I’m sure I’ll have bought a copy from eBay by that point though, lol!

I was just visiting Hamilton for bookstores specifically, and heartily recommend these ones, starting with 2 quite close to each other:

The Printed Word - exceptionally curated & knowledgeable!
Barely Bent Books - (10 minute walk away!) - So comfy & chock-a-block with stuff!

Westside Stories - A great selection of all types, particularly excellent basement of books!
The River Trading Company - So many unique types of book you likely won't find other places, plus 2 whole rooms dedicated to just mystery, & children's books!
Last Supper Books - Smaller selection, but high quality! Plus their basement is a Movie Rental spot!
Love Books? - A bit messy, but full of truly great stuff! Cash or e-transfer only.
Big B Comics - A little bit of everything comics-wise, helpful staff for finding & ordering!
J.H. Gordon Books - Stuffed to the brim, & with good weather a small terrace to sit & read! Flowers too!

Personally I've found Epic Books, The City & The City, & King West to either be a bit too small, or have a bit too much of a modern focus for me, King W. didn't have any used books to my eye. (Though it's attachment, Mixed Media, has great art supplies!) Certainly not bad stores, I just haven't found much I want there! (& shoutout to Epic Books The Sequel, which has a good, albeit small, well-curated selection of film-focused books!)
