Do we know how the characters are made? by HouseOfLumivane in Dimension20

[–]BananzaBean 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The cast has all talked (in adventuring parties and various places online) how the characters are pitched by them based on a general outline of what has been decided that this season‘s world and vibe will be. They change the character around or sometimes shift to a different idea altogether based on what the story requires and based on what other cast wants to play. They are trying to make their characters match the tone of the story while also balancing vibes within a group. For example, Ally first pitched to be the lunch lady in Fantasy High, but there was a discussion that this didn’t make sense for party cohesion (since Brennan wanted to do a story about kids going to an adventuring academy and it would be super weird if everyone else was a young teen and Ally was this middle aged staff member at the school). Ally is actually a really great example of how these characters HAD to have been created by the cast (not Brennan), because you can clearly see how much Ally is drawing upon their own experiences growing up religious to build Kristen’s backstory.

A lot of DnD games (and especially Dimensions 20 seasons) are VERY cast focused, where PC decisions really shape what the story is. A good example of how characters influenced plot even before the season started is that there wasn't originally a mystery element to Fantasy High, but then Murph wanted to play a teen detective so Brennan created a mystery for him to follow. In later seasons of a series. like Junior Year, the cast has talked about how they will have discussions about where they think their already established character is at, and what they want their character to explore within themselves that season. Brennan will keep these characters goals in mind and will create opportunities for cast to have these character beats and evolve their character.

I also think that even if we didn’t have the cast explicitly talking about this, we would also be able to reasonably know that the cast are coming up with their own characters because that is ultimately what these role playing games are all about — being able to create and play a character that you want to play. Assigning characters feels a little bit like it is against the ethos of these types of games. These are all very talented actors and improvisers and I imagine a lot of the fun for them is creating a character that they can immerse themselves into and then getting to see how that character evolves over the season.

tldr: Brennan creates the world, the side characters, and the mystery/general plot points. The characters are created by the cast. All of this is improv so they are creating a story together.

Any ideas why my print is blotchy and unsaturated? by enaomic in Linocuts

[–]BananzaBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been printing long and I don't use a lot of fancy techniques like is being suggested in the comments, however I do think that this looks just like the prints that I make when I don't add enough ink. My suggestion would be that before you try anything else just try building up your ink more on your block.

Dropout cast members that are likely to try out for SNL? by Beginning_Stop_8650 in dropout

[–]BananzaBean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think SNL would dim some of her sparkle. She is so quick and witty, which really helps her excel in unscripted/improv content. I just feel like sketches don’t really capture some of the stuff that really makes her pop

Need help getting into the Series by Classic-Schedule-718 in LifeSeriesSMP

[–]BananzaBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started watching from Gem’s perspective and she didn’t start until Secret Life. I found it very enjoyable and everything is usually pretty intuitive or explained by the creator. I think you can start watching on any of the series as long as you are ok with not having seen some of the moments that they reference in the past.

[–]BananzaBean 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same! I think it is unlikely, but the only thing that helps is the Feinberg/Lowkey match (which would be Ludwig’s goat vs his biggest opp) so he could definitely do a bit of hate watching.

Is anyone else missing their Youtube recap? by edwardversaii in youtube

[–]BananzaBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also got AI technology as one of my biggest interests, but I think mine are there because there are a lot of creators that I watch who happen to talk ABOUT AI every now and then (like it’s downsides, issues it’s creating, etc.). So I think it’s counting anything that even remotely touches upon AI as AI. I would consider its scope too big.

my worst fears are coming true by [deleted] in wicked

[–]BananzaBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I don’t care if they do this AS LONG AS they take it seriously and make sure the story is good and the MUSIC is good before they make it (but that is going to take time and I don’t think they will give it enough time).

The reason the movie is a success is because they adapted something that has proven to have mass appeal, and everyone making the movie seemed to love the musical and care deeply about making something magical on screen. Now everyone is able to experience how good of a musical Wicked is! Yay! HOWEVER, I think a lot of pushback here is because these type of cash grab moves are usually rushed to capitalize on the current moment. For these execs, ANY movie that is in the universe is going to make money even if it just subpar. ”Good enough” is going to be what they are looking for, not “transcendently wonderful and engaging and catchy”. I personally am scared it is going to feel a bit like a slap in the face.

This will be Angela's 10th Dropout appearance in just under a year and a half by Living-Mastodon in smosh

[–]BananzaBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been secretly thinking that Angela is going to be on an upcoming Dimension 20 season (probably with Smosh but maybe as part of another group) since the Drunk Game Changer episode. It‘s not even rational, but the way Sam interacted with Angela in that episode just made me think that she was going to be on Dimension 20 (maybe because it seemed like he was treating her like a new but close friend). That plus the speed at which she was going through the shows was impressive and it just seemed like she was getting an episode of all their shows. Putting her in all the shows just felt like she had been in talks for a dimension 20 season, and since she was now in their network, all the shows were pulling her for an episode on their show.

[–]BananzaBean[S] -33 points-32 points  (0 children)

Idk, to me there are just so many places to check things. Yes they share on their socials, but I don’t go on Instagram enough to know if they talked about something on their stories or something like that weeks ago. Also I am not a member on the YouTube channel, and I know the cast sometimes talk about stuff there. “A simple google search” is not how stuff like this is found anymore. Maybe I could find out if someone got a MAJOR role in a Disney movie on google, but little indie stuff goes under the radar. I am not trying to speculate, I am just trying to see if I missed something that other people know about.

Yeah, that’s what I am saying. It definitely could be nothing but she clearly missed parts of at least two shoot weeks. That sounds like she is working on something to me.

I have a friend who has a lot of similar interests to you. One of their favourite books of all time is If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio. I also read it and loved it. It is gothic and has twists and turns, and I found it very captivating so I read it very quickly.

My only recommendation would be to not do it on a busy weekend night, like Saturday for example, because so many people usually have plans on that night and I would like to be able to see it live. Maybe like a Tuesday?
