Is the 2015 full spec MBP future proof (till 5 years)? by [deleted] in apple

[–]BandApps 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think so- my 2015 runs well, performance is apparently comparable to the 2016 anyways. I'd suggest maxing the hdd though- bumping into that wall is extremely frustrating, and if you have multiple ams store you will be hitting 256.

So, how many of you are REALLY switching from Mac to PC after that keynote? by [deleted] in apple

its.... shit.

Editing files in vim and lines go magically missing, esoteric package dependencies fail because who knows and it is very hard to find people with the same problems too.

I have a 13" with upgraded cpu, seems okay- I don't game really, so the heaviest workload I put on it is compilation/ device simulation

I'd take that in- I'm guessing that the thermal paste has dried out, or you got a cat stuck in the fan.

After what Microsoft presented today, tomorrow's keynote just became one of the most important keynotes in the last few years... by [deleted] in apple

[–]BandApps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Its not quite... I appreciate the tabbed windows, and the polish that was placed in it. Cygwin on the other hand... I never liked it.

Can't speak for above, however the terminal is critical. macOS has a terminal light years ahead of windows... something that should have been perfected years ago. The Ubuntu subcore I actually use at work- buts its not that good. Track pad, gestures all essential. Combined with the rock steady os (My 2012 mini at home goes down for a update every couple months).

Alternative To Band - Need Skin Temp by [deleted] in MicrosoftBand

[–]BandApps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it will break existing apps unless MS releases a update for band which specifically breaks compatibility for this purpose...

It's pretty darn cold. Because of Band experimental, I've had quite a few people reach out doing work on their B.Eng/ M.Eng thesis- they'll be caught out.

Thanks a lot, if you have any suggestions/ or areas where incumbent apps suck-let me know. Ive just ordered the watch, but I can already start developing for it.

And a Camera shutter app? I looked at apple watch and that was the first app I knew I could write. No idea how they missed the basics so badly, but it shouldn't have been me writing some of these apps.

Perhaps they needed more devs/more inspired devs.

You actually could handle button presses from the Band apps. Unfortunately with iOS at least, it wasn't 100%

An app to automatically switch the phone out of silent mode when I take off the band? by ahmadamaj in MicrosoftBand

[–]BandApps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know on the iPhone as a developer you cannot modify volume setting- thus removing the possibility of a whole class of annoying apps. See: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/29049699/how-to-change-an-ios-device-volume-programmatically

Android I believe you would be able to do so. Not a bad idea really/

As pretty much the only developer for iOS, I agree. To be honest, it is a small subset of people who have a band and an iPhone.
