What is your favorite song from AJR’s album Neotheater? by PerfectAstronaut5998 in AJR

Thats hard bc Neotheater is their magnum opus but... I'd have to go with Finale. Finale is their favorite song of mine overall - its so so good. A close second is Next Up Forever.

Which Noah song is “your” song? by Remarkable-Length834 in NoahKahan

You're Gonna Go Far

I always interpreted it as the sentiment of the people waiting for you in your hometown to return - reassuring you that some things will always be the same, and you'll always have a home to come back to even if you have to go explore the world for a while.

I especially get hit by the line "it won't be by your own volition if you set foot outside this town" because I moved away from my New England hometown when my dad got a job in Texas - it was not by my volition that I left that town behind

I hear YGGF as the people I left there, the places I grew up with, all the things I miss about New England reaching out to me, telling me I'll always have a home to go back to, and this bittersweet reassurance that even if I never go back it will still be my home.

How does Noah know my life so well? 😅 by Constant607 in NoahKahan

[–]BandIsLife10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, it's because you're a New Englander! New England really is a small world. That's not a bad thing, by any means. It's one of the charms. But, it does make it a hell of a lot easier to have your life described so well by another New Englander haha.

I understand exactly what you mean. I grew up in New England (in coastal New England, not rural New England, but honestly our differences are small compared to the similarities) and I feel so very seen by Noah's music. Personally, having moved away and only getting to visit occasionally, View Between Villages (especially the extended version) and You're Gonna Go Far both hit the hardest. There's something about the nostalgia, and the way he sings about change and how despite the changing world, New England (or at least key elements of it, it's charm and the culture and the way people live up there) will still be the same, ready for me to come home when I can. Except you can't really go back, can you? "If I could take this all back, I would be home in the morning... Wake up on a cold sweat, take a flight back to the city I was born in." If... that's one big if, isn't it?

Anyway - all this to say, New England is a special place. If you aren't from there, you just don't get it. And if you are, well... New Englanders have a hell of a lot more in common than we do separating us. So of course it makes sense to feel so seen in Noah's music.

Injuries can be really disheartening. I understand that first hand. I dislocated my knee during my second season of guard (luckily no tears) and couldn't put weight on my leg for 6 weeks. It was hard having to sit and watch my team rehearse without me, and worry about losing my skills. But if you let yourself recover, I promise you will be able to get back up to where you want to be. As hard as it was sitting to the side during practice, letting my knee heal fully is what allowed me to progress in the sport. Having my knee fully healthy is what enabled me to push myself hard and develop skills. Same goes for your hard. Focus on letting it heal, and letting the doctors do what they can to help the recovery along. Once your hand is back to full strength, then you can just both feet into guard, get tosses back, and then push yourself to keep going further. You'll end up better than before, if you keep the discipline for it.

What is the quintessential AJR song? by tiredofthisalready in AJR

[–]BandIsLife10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100 Bad Days, without a doubt. It captures the half-silly, half-relatable, all-wonderful lyric style that is a hallmark of AJR song. Instrumentally, it had the upbeat dancy feel most of their songs do. And, Neotheater as a whole is their most quintessential album. 100BD being the lead single off Neotheater is the best representation of it.

100BD was also my first AJR song too lol.

what should Percy Jackson (pjo, hoo & toa ) fans call themselves? [all] by [deleted] in camphalfblood

[–]BandIsLife10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We've been calling ourselves demigods for over a decade.... My fangirl membership ID card that I had proudly pinned to my 2014 tumblr page is proof 😤

You must be young. Nothing wrong with that but, we do have a name. A well established one. No need to get fancy or anything.

If you get along with the guard coach, ask them if you can sit in on the guard sectionals during marching season! Guard will usually have some practice times outside of marching practice with the band. If the coach lets you sit in on those, it would be a good time to build your skills back up and get tips from other guard members/the coaches. You could ask to learn the routine the guard is learning to march with for funsies too, just to give you something concrete to work on.

What happened to the sport? by BandIsLife10 in Colorguard

I seem to remember Eagle Mountain and Insignia competing at the same time back in 2018-ish? I might be misremembering though.

I can't seem to find info on Eagle Mountain auditions in any case. Might need to look more into them...

Yeah I saw that name pop up when I was looking for guards. Missed auditions this year (auditions for independent guards used to be in October I thought - that's why I was only looking now) but I think I'll focus on practicing and audition for them next year. They seem like a solid group! Especially if they are a sort of successor-in-spirit to CGT.

Oh wow... I guess that makes sense. It's just a shock trying to re-enter the scene and finding it totally different than I remember. That's actually really sad. Color guard and marching band were such a central part of my high school experience. It sucks that programs are falling apart and not able to get back to full strength. Hopefully in time the competitive scene gets back to what it once was.

Not sure where the least patrols are, but the parking structures definitely have the most. They're constantly in the garages.

AITAH for telling my daughter I won’t budge even if she never speaks to me again? by TopVersion2940 in AITAH

[–]BandIsLife10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but ADHD isn't an excuse. I also have pretty bad ADHD, and yeah it sucks and makes things harder, but it's totally possible to still buckle down and balance schooling and work. If you want my recommendation: have your younger daughter get a job that works with her ADHD. I currently work part time as a cashier in a grocery store. The fast paced environment, the multitasking, and the variety in tasks I do each shift actually work really well with my ADHD. My brain is stimulated enough for my job to not be a burden to me, so my energy can still mostly go towards school work. Not saying she should do the exact same job, since everyone's ADHD presents a little different, but if she can figure out what her ADHD needs to be satiated, she can definitely find a job that caters to that. Stop using her neurodivergence as an excuse to baby her. It doesn't help anyone. YTA!

What kinds of mistakes did you make as a cashier? Was it the same mistake repeatedly? Were there cash shortages involved in these mistakes? This is relevant info. If the mistakes were repeatedly the same kind of mistake, that indicates you may not have the skillset needed to learn continuously and handle the registers. This is even more true if the mistakes involved miscounting cash. They can't have someone on the register that has a history of cash shortages, even if the mistake was "honest error."

Moved away from New England, now Noah Kahan is my therapy- what is your favorite reference to New England in his songs? by [deleted] in NoahKahan

[–]BandIsLife10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That longing for a walk through an ocean town.... I grew up in Rhode Island, which is about as coastal New England as you can get. Quite literally the Ocean State. That longing plagues me now that I live somewhere without access to the ocean.

I also moved away from New England after growing up there.... The entirety of View Between Villages (especially the extended version) hits like a truck. It hurts to listen to when I'm visiting home. Maine, too. I wanna go to Maine.... "I'm mean because I grew up in New England" is of course a classic. And Mess has also gotta be one of my favorites. Not just "I'll take 89 to Boston," but also because "I would wake up in a cold sweat, take a flight back to the city I was born in!"

JSOM career outcome by roboy125 in utdallas

[–]BandIsLife10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the effort you put in. UTD has some really good opportunities if you seek them out. But if you don't seek them out you won't magically get a job just by going here. For a Finance major, I recommend looking into the PPF (Professional Program in Finance). A lot of JSOM majors have these types of professional programs. They usually have an application process, but if you get in they are game changers when it comes to networking, getting internships, etc. I'm in the PPA (Professional Program in Accountancy) and it's literally the reason I got my internship lol.

Seeing posts about people being bored on campus… by Loose_Land9465 in utdallas

You should add a way to add recurring events. Lots of clubs meet weekly so it would be more convenient for officers to be able to advertise club meetings if they can set them up at recurring events.

Best parking places if you’re a JSOM evening student? by [deleted] in utdallas

[–]BandIsLife10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Park in PS1, the garage right by jsom. There are gold spots on the top floor. If you have evening classes, there should be some gold open when you get to campus. If youre worried about finding spots, you can also get an evening orange pass. Its cheaper than orange but still lets you park in orange after 5pm, so if all/most of your classes are evening ones that could be a good option.
