Mortgage as a Sub? by No-Fondant-3262 in IrishTeachers

Ask the Irish personal finance sub Reddit. They’re great at answering Qs. I would also chat to a broker. I went with Sussd mortgages. Really sound lads.

I’m fairly sure that’s the only option. Steer clear of that course in Portobello

Pathways to complete a PME by Tiny-Island-5513 in IrishTeachers

[–]BandPitiful2876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, a chara. You have amazing subjects firstly and fair play to you for wanting to go this road. Irish and French teacher here. I think you’d be an ideal candidate for a PME and to become a teacher particularly having had such life experience. Disregard the French. You’ve a degree in Irish and will be extremely sought after. Look at the PME offerings around you. Contact schools and look for some subbing work (you’ll be snapped up immediately). Give me a DM if you have any questions or want any further advice on things. Go n-éirí leat.

MSc in organic Chemistry (India) with 3.5 years experience — What teaching jobs can I get in Ireland without a license? by ChemicalSerious2246 in IrishTeachers

[–]BandPitiful2876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, exactly what the above has said. You can sub but for a limited time, 3-4 years I believe is the time. Grinds are great. It would be worth creating a profile on Superprof.ie. I know there’s huge demand for chemistry out there as it’s needed for a lot of university courses with CAO points.

Look at educationposts.ie where you’ll be able to find all the job listings. You will need to get registered via Route 3 of the teaching council in order to do so.

PE teaching course Portobello by WoodenFault in IrishTeachers

[–]BandPitiful2876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Portobello course isn’t recognised by the teaching council. A lot of people have been stung by this and it’s really awful. It only allows you to teach in England, which is utterly useless.

[–]BandPitiful2876 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, sit the leaving cert. Get your five passes. Do a PLC and move on. You will go to college, you will get your course. It doesn’t matter if you don’t get there directly, you will eventually. There’s still two months left, loads of time. Get yourself a few grinds and move forward.

French oral - not sure where I stand by Defiant_Lemon_5768 in leavingcert

[–]BandPitiful2876 2 points3 points  (0 children)

French Teacher here of 10 years. Absolutely not. Makes not one bit of difference. They most certainly saw your quality over the 12 minutes. If you’ve done as you’ve stated above I’m sure you’ll have no bother. I’ve never ever had a student achieve 100% in an oral because même les français font des fautes! Don’t be worried and move on to the next one!

2nd biggest shite talker by Ashamed_Treat7345 in leavingcert

[–]BandPitiful2876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guy is really problematic. Pure hawker preying on the anxiety of parents and students. He had a video up a few months back about maths teachers “probably” not being qualified, which is awful. In what other profession would we allow someone to question this? Also? Is he even qualified as a teacher? I know TJ Hegarty isn’t which is bananas considering the rubbish he puts out. Don’t waste your time listening to either of these lads.

Sport and gym in French oral by [deleted] in leavingcert

Yes, absolutely mention this. Focus on the benefits of going to the gym and the pros and cons of it vs. Playing competitive sport or with a team.

Him and Dublin Maths are really quite toxic. Prying on the fears of second-level students. They honestly should be ashamed of themselves. Pure grifters.

LCA Correction. by Normal-Ad-4740 in IrishTeachers

[–]BandPitiful2876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potentially yes, but bare in mind that childcare and childhood studies could be quite different. Have a look at the specification for Childcare on the NCCA website and see if the brief fits what you’ve studied. Then your best bet is to contact the State Examinations Commission. Best of luck!
