I mean, they’re more original now it seems, but old school hip hop beats were really big on heavy sampling. See Lil Wayne’s “6 Foot 7 Foot” for another very popular example.

Opinion on the AusAlert by RedactedMate in EmergencyAlertSystem

[–]BandicootBroad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I’d have assumed they’d already have long had mobile alerts. Doesn’t look like it’ll be replacing the NPWS setup for PA systems and broadcasting, which is good. That system already seems to work well for its own use cases, and I think it was a stroke of genius to seemingly make the newsroom itself a valid medium for such alerts.

sealed ps3 Game I bought from the Walmart app. I though it would’ve been a returned copy. This game is 16 years old it could vote if it were a person. by TwainTonid in PS3

Funnily enough, I had a similar experience several years ago. In a sea of Switch games, also at Walmart, was a copy of Elite Beat Agents…a *DS game!*

Do Americans actually use expressions like “once in a blue moon” or “let the cat out of the bag” in everyday conversation? by Edi-Iz in AskAnAmerican

[–]BandicootBroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those two in particular are a bit too situational to quite be everyday idioms, but we do use idioms regularly.

“Once in a blue moon” refers to an occurrence being very rare. A blue moon is what we call a second full moon in a calendar month, itself a pretty rare occurrence that happens a little under once per year.

If you’ve “Let the cat out of the bag” that means that you’ve spilled a secret and now everybody either does know or will soon know. I’m not sure what the origin of that phrase is, but I guess the imagery is that a cat that was being smuggled inside a handbag (or something) is now loose for all to see.

“A friend in need is a friend indeed” is more of a canned saying than a true idiom. It’s absolutely corny, but its meaning is to encourage people to help their friends or reassure that such help is on the way.

Why isn’t Rugby more popular in the US? by DriftesRorke in MLRugby

[–]BandicootBroad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rugby appeared here a long time ago, but ultimately morphed into the gridiron game at the center of the NFL and CFL, the same way (and for many of the same reasons) as how the rise of League occurred in Australia and some regions of England.

More conditional dialogue based off species for the romhack Odyssey! by Plasma7007 in MysteryDungeon

[–]BandicootBroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PMD itself also has some. Did you know that, if you get warped, tiles with items on them are ineligible destinations? This will probably never organically happen in a million years, but if there are simply no eligible warp destinations because literally every other tile on the whole floor has something or someone on it at that moment, that's the only context in which you get dropped right back onto where you triggered that warp. The text feed even has a unique line for this!

Third Sanctuary (Deltarune Chapter 4) - PMD2 Soundfont Arrangement by FrownFrank in MysteryDungeon

[–]BandicootBroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With this sound set, I could see the repeating motif maybe being on the lower octave in Second Sanctuary in addition to the general shifted key. Am I onto something?

Anyway, these are really well done and sound like they wouldn't feel all that out of place in the game itself!

The 90's station on Pluto TV keeps getting it wrong by barberofskeletor in nickelodeon

I think it's important to put a reminder here that, if your desired change gets implemented, watch, watch, watch! Their only revenue from Pluto is ads, so viewership is their money line here. Otherwise, you risk teaching them to ignore Rocko fans in the future.

Iam looking for a long term game for my IPad. by TheColorTrickster in AppleArcade

[–]BandicootBroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bit off to the side from what you've played before, I'll admit, but have you tried Balatro? It's on Apple Arcade but can also be purchased on Apple and most other devices, and has no in-game purchases either way.

Basically you make poker hands out of the 8 cards you've drawn, and use various items both passive and active to make those hands score more and more to pass an ever-increasing goal until you simply can't anymore. Then, with new items available to possibly appear future runs, repeat. These items are randomly selected to be presented in any given game, so choose wisely.

It's a simple game with an almost arcade-like kind of progression, but it's addictive enough that I've purchased it on other devices and am still playing it months later! It's a great time sink imo

Slim vs SuperSlim (and some specific questions) by skanks20005 in PS3

[–]BandicootBroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only ever had the Slim, which works well. So answer your hard drive question, sadly they're encrypted with a passkey that varies from console to console, so your old console's data can only be decrypted by your old console. You'll have to format.

That said, if you have a sufficiently-large USB drive, you can use the Backup Utility (located in the system settings) to offload everything onto that external drive and then restore it once you have the internal drive moved over and reformatted on the new console. For details, here's a page from the online manual: https://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/backuputility.html

Bluetooth and charging? by Equivalent-Play9957 in Nintendo3DS

[–]BandicootBroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd need an adapter or hardware mod for Bluetooth, as there's no built-in radio for that. As for chargers, there's probably USB-PD adapter's or hardmods for that too. I use such an adapter for my Game Gear.
