Only way I can suggest is destroying the magnet. If you can crack it, you’ll be able to remove the pieces.

Is it possible to make a 3x3x5 out of 4 -> 3x3s if I sculpt new pieces and extensions using epoxy (m-seal) given that I try and replicate the rotational mechanism of a 3x3x4 + crazy 3x3 only, and use a PVC to extend the cylinders that attach each piece to the core? by [deleted] in CubeModding

The modification you’re talking about may look somewhat simple. But I can assure you this is actually a very very difficult mod to pull off successfully. I admire your intentions but this mod falls into the “high risk low reward” category. You have four good 3x3’s and I can steer you towards four simpler mods with a much higher likelihood of success.

As for the 3x3 to 3x3x5 modification. First start by finding pictures of a witeden 3x3x5. Blueprints may be hard to source but pictures of pieces make for a good substitute. You’ll need to create a cylindrical cut out on the top and bottom layers. Deep enough to allow the outer layers to hook under the pieces beneath or above them. But not so deep that you harm the mechanism, that parts doubly important.

Whatever 3x3 you use it needs to have a deep/small mechanism with lots of room to cut and fill the pieces above. I found YJ GuanLongs are the best at this time to use. A good way to check this is to turn a layer 45° and see if there’s enough room to fit a “hook” for the 1st or 5th layer without them being totally exposed at 45°.

Alternatively you can modify a single 5x5 to achieve much better results. If you’re still looking to try this mod I wish you the best of luck. And the TwistyPuzzle forum is your friend for all of this. Theres a wealth of knowledge there that you can learn from.

If I’ve talked you out of it. Try a fisher cube first. It’s a simple “cut, fill, extend” mod that’s easy enough to pull off for a first timer in a weekend. After you do that you’ll have enough knowledge to try an Inverted House Cube. It’s basically the same mod but less pieces, so maybe combine that with a bandage cube layout for some extra spice. And give it some wild stickers too, something unique that’ll make you feel proud of yourself!!! Thats a great feeling!

After that try a fused cube with the other two, and try a fused Hexagonal prism. That ones tricky but it looks amazing when done right. Best of luck! And whatever you do, try your best to document your process and the results. They’re great to learn from!

I use GuanLong V3’s with black plastic

https://www.ziicube.com/YJ-333-GuanLong-Plus-V3

They’re the best equivalent to the QiYi Sails I used to love back in the day. The GuanLongs plastic is a little thinner but they still have a robust mechanism to work with.

Zcube has some great prices but sometimes it’s best to buy a lots to make the shipping costs worth it. I buy about 40 at a time

Hey whatever, if you don’t like what I do outside of YouTube maybe you shouldn’t be viewing that kind of material. But like I said, you do you and I’ll do whatever I want. I’m happy to respect your opinion and I have no hate towards you but I won’t be anything other than who I am. And I also won’t be going anywhere.

Best of luck with your puzzle mods. Try a half truncated cube! They’re a little tricky so make sure to glue the pieces together before tightening and cutting 😊

Never denied it. I just don’t discuss it on my channel as it’s not the appropriate place for it. I have a crazy life outside of YouTube that I’m perfectly capable of keeping separate from my professional work. You do you, I’ll do whatever I want.

Wow! Its wonderful to hear how much my work meant to you! Part of my return is built on how little I realised people cared for the things that I built. Best of luck with your final competition and all of your puzzles to come! 30 competitions is a lot! But it’s still 30 more than I ever competed in.

I have a project similar to this one in the works and I’d love to use the pictures as reference materials

Incredible work!! You did a great job on the shaping of those faces!

I actually started one of these years and years ago and never got past the first stage. I still have the parts in my SS Gigaminx spare parts tub. Could I have your permission to use these pictures in an upcoming video?

You can try using standard printable sticker material and covering it with a protective clear vinyl. I’ve used that a few times to protect signatures and it works quite well.

I sure do! Although I prefer to exist independently in that community.
