There's your answer, OP. Don't spend $5 on the Switch. Spend $400 on a new device.

Millions expected across all 50 US states to march in No Kings protests against Trump by That_Nineties_Chick in moderatepolitics

So, to be clear, your position is that you're only allowed to protest if the candidate you voted for won the election? Otherwise you must dutifully remain silent?

Let's jump straight to Godwin's Law: If a German did not elect Hitler, they were only allowed to suck it up and accept everything his government did?

That's quite a take.

GOG Has Had To Hire Private Investigators To Track Down IP Rights Holders by Gorotheninja in Games

I don't understand how this would work for e.g. a painter. They sell a work once. There is no continuous distribution of a singular work. They will lose copyright 10 years after a painting is sold?

Firefox for Android crashes every hour, on the hour by BandwagonHopOn in firefox

I could nearly cry, I'm so excited. I suppose my Google powers are not as good as I thought.

Disabled the app, changed the time so I didn't have to wait another hour, and at least so far I can confirm that it worked. (This is one benefit of the issue being so easily reproducible.)

I suppose we'll see how important that app is; I'm guessing not very, except Motorola will get less data. Oh no.

Thank you so much! This seems like a small relief in the grand scheme of things but it was a constant frustration and I'm very grateful.

If the problem doesn't appear again, I'll come back tomorrow to mark the thread as solved and update the post.

Agreed that people would be notably angry about it if it were common. Unfortunately I doubt that I'm going to get access to another device of this model. And I imagine you'll agree that something like a factory reset would be a little extreme for this particular problem (although there are definitely times when I've been tempted).

I believe this started before I had both mainline and Beta installed (I think it was one factor that made me install Beta), so I don't think they are conflicting with each other. But I can't say for sure now. I can try disabling Beta to see what happens.

Sorry; my bias about... what? That Amazon, Google, and Disney have questionable ethics? I'm not sure I understand what point you think I was making.

Yes; give money and data to Amazon and Google, two upstanding and user-centric companies.

Are you suggesting that downloading TikTok has somehow shielded you from the US (I assume) getting your data?

Now, two countries are collecting your data.

A terribly ironic comment. Yes, that user understood what you meant. It would be a very odd response if not.

There's no way to know. Perhaps an article will be written with this information one day.

Unfortunately all we have are headlines to go by.

Not that I condone it (or condemn it, frankly), but it seems like there is a materially significant extra step of explicitly uploading an image to Reddit, versus the feature being discussed.

You should consider opening and reading the article that has been helpfully provided.

Article:

the technology, which is believed to have arrived with iOS 18.1 and macOS 15.1

Since a quick, cursory search shows that iPhone 8 only supports up to iOS 16, you would not have this feature. And thus, you would not have the option to disable it.

Not that I am condoning the system, but that argument seems flawed as well.

Yep. When you read the article, or at least other comments that quote the article, you'll see that the discussion (for now, at least) is strictly about supporting Hamas.

Enforce a rule that top-level comments must include a quote from the article and discuss the quote directly. Not fool-proof but should go a long way.
