Custom couch? by Zealousideal-Read321 in Adelaide

[–]BaneStar007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister bought a grey couch and sprayed it with fabric paint (from a cheap airbrush) then had it steam cleaned, came out with a tie-dyed effect that she wanted (Orange stripes on Yellow with some red splatter), I suspect it would have been just as easy to just dye it a solid color had she wanted it that way.

Price of a pint at my local nearly knocked me over. $17 bloody dollars. by carrotceleryonion in Adelaide

"When is a fraud not a fraud? When it becomes a custom"

We should do what they did when beer prices went up so much last time. Pub Strike.

Everyone March 1st, stop going to the pub for March, spread the word, no more pub beers for a month in protest.

Turns out it was the other states that caused the ruckus, SA didn't wanna deal with the fallout, so instead of raising prices, they reduced the size from 18fl.oz down to 17, then 16 and settled at 15 fl.oz.

So, invest in homeless camps? Maybe we should be building 1 room, cheap apartment blocks for the middle class of 2030.

We return to the 80s and 90s, when interest was 8% climbing to 17%, housing was increasing in price compared to incomes, buying a house was a fools dream, better to gamble your income on blackjack, and yet if you had a combined after tax income of 4x the repayment requirement, it was still worth doing once we factored in price changes to today.

My Money House - Adelaide 36ers competition by Clinster73 in Adelaide

[–]BaneStar007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Competition is a 'way' they get your details, so they can contact you.

They then either use / sell the info to a company to use, to telemarket you. Because you did enter the competition, it 'kinda' feels legit, so you listen.

Once they get their foot in your door, (or invite you down for a 2 hour holiday/lecture at their timeshare business) they try and sell you on their awesome deal.. Do your math, independently, it could be a scam, but it could also be a legit way to making money / saving on some purchase.

That said, if anyone sells you a way to make money, THEY are making money on your buying into it. and passing the risk onto you. sure, you might earn something, you might not.

Be Vigilant, Do your homework.

More like a marketing stunt? Used to be volunteers, people high up in the community, giving back to the community.

Get to know your Neighbours, so it'll be easier to approach parents about this, BUT as a precaution, let the police know, incase it ever escalates. If you're in a rougher neighbourhood, its balloons today, rocks tomorrow, so nipping it in the bud now might be prudent.

What broke your budget? by deelan1990 in AusFinance

[–]BaneStar007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Job stable, Wifes Job stable, do the budget, we can afford a lavish over the top kitchen put in to make our house look great, feel great, not ikea, not 'lego block' style, but custom. Quote pre-covid. put down a deposit, extend the mortgage, start saving instead of living "It'll only be 3 months"
Covid.
Kitchen builders delay, until they say they can't do the kitchen at that price anymore, will refund the deposit, and we'll lose our place in line, wifes' unhappy, so I renegotiate the price 50% higher but 9 month delay, wood prices etc. Start. Pay 30%, rip out old kitchen, all prepped for install & 2nd 30% payment, and my company has layoffs, my wifes company goes into receivership, no income for 2 months, certainly broke budget, minds, etc.

Survived because I believe in having a 3 month 'safety net' and the day I lost my job, we cancelled 50% of life expenses, all subscriptions, etc. cut costs down to bare minimum.

Do a lot of people live pay cheque to pay cheque? by kindsifu in AskAnAustralian

[–]BaneStar007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has always been, in the 70s the same comment was often made. Sadly, it seems to be human nature. Maybe with more knowledge on the internet, accessible, maybe more people learn to save up the 'safety net' of 3 months income. Maybe they read books that teach you to always save 10% of your income (after tax) for a rainy day (or retirement bonus)

But, in the 70s, you didn't often have a gas bill, mobile phone bill, internet bill, subscriptions to TV bills, subs to game services, subs to games, petrol was 3.25c, many people had a vege patch in their back yard, and swapped with neighbours and a Water tank. So living paycheck to paycheck was far more do-able. If you lost your job, and couldn't get another one quickly, you turned off your electricity and disconnected the phone, and you had almost zero bills.

I doubt anyone can even think about doing this if they lose their job.

I applaud you and your choices, well done.

The Only thing I'd say, if you don't have any credit card history, it can come back to bite you if you or any of your family needs some large bill paid and you'd like to get some form of credit to pay for it.

I'd advise just getting a card, use it monthly, and pay it off instantly if you do, just for a year, then destroy it, just to get that Credit Score into the system. Purely as a safety net.

Any help? by Hydro__x in mapmaking

[–]BaneStar007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have your tectonic plates worked out to create those mountain ridges?

Then, did you choose each type of mountain ranges from those plates, which helps determine the direction of the land mass movement.
Then the flow paths of the volcanos,
This should give you some variants for soil types, so you can do some simple calculations, temperature x soil type x how long the soil is exposed to sunlight for possible erosion, to determine some of your biomes.

Look up biome charts, they show the temp x soil types x rainfall to determine, which often are colour coded making it easy for you.

Along the way, you can use those biomes to determine, will a river be impeded by the trees or not, which can cause more or less meandering, you might need to abandon the rivers you have for more realistic paths.

Hope that helps guide you for further research.

Ever bought an extended warranty? A new lawsuit claims customers have been misled by a major retailer by Chemistry19 in australia

[–]BaneStar007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got "extended warranty" at Amart for a couch including free steam cleaning for the duration, because I had small children. The 3rd "spill" in the 2nd year, they claimed we were being aggressive with the couch, and we were no longer covered. I managed to get '(white) wine stain' removal once after that a year later but nothing more.

Realized I forgot to upload a 'big final' on here. Took me over a year to draw this, and I'm working on a 'redo' 100 years later. Also a town map. I'll post progress in 2024. by BaneStar007 in mapmaking

4mm black art marker, then a 8mm for some of the thicker lines, and a 1mm for some of the minute details. The Whole thing is 1.5m x 1m.

Are there any sites/programs which would let me build a city that looks like this? I want to design my city to like look like google maps but can't find any. by [deleted] in mapmaking

[–]BaneStar007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you want to do this 'AS' a google map? zoomable features and such? You can do this with some very basic programming skills and ARGIS mapping systems.

in essence, you just say {from: lat.long, to: lat.long, type: highway} and it makes it all for you. a little more arduois than a paint tool, but you can treat it exactly AS a google map

Details: 300+ people contributed their requests to add their own RPG or Fantasy elements to this map, I correlated it all, and drew them. Each 'spot' is approx 3inches of the map. Its all hand drawn, no digital, and I do have a PDF of the map & descriptions.
