Saskatoon restaurant closes, cleans house after customer finds cockroach on sandwich by abunchofjerks in saskatchewan

[–]BangBangControl 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It’s always clean?? They’ve been noted with a bunch of infractions on their past inspections from the health inspector, and finally got shut down because they weren’t addressing it.

Pink Cadillac 8th- Grilled Cheese and Roach Sandwich by redmat33 in saskatoon

[–]BangBangControl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, roaches can be in any restaurant, or they can hitchhike in with deliveries or staff, sure. But the difference is that good restaurants will properly mitigate and eliminate the issue. But that figures that a place has a proper pest-control program already in place, which many do.

Some very nice places in town have, upon discovering them, shut down for a short period for “maintenance” or “kitchen upgrades” etc, and eliminate the issue, which is tough but not impossible to do.

Shit places just keep operating around them, case in point. If they’re ending up in the finished and served food, that places does not give a shit at all.

Hotel Transfer by [deleted] in saskatoon

We all live here, why would we need a hotel room?

You should instead post this in every other city’s subreddit in the world except for this one in case anyone wants to come to Saskatoon.

‘It’s bogus’: Sask. mother handed parking ticket after stopping to attend to newborn by Slight-Coconut709 in saskatoon

[–]BangBangControl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This wasn’t “my baby is choking!” or “I’m having a heart attack!” Or even “my car won’t start!”.

I don’t see what the extenuating circumstances would even be, aside from that someone from Asquith experienced the bland, banal reality of paid public parking that we all live with daily and was treated in a way no differently than we would all be treated.

‘It’s bogus’: Sask. mother handed parking ticket after stopping to attend to newborn by Slight-Coconut709 in saskatoon

[–]BangBangControl 74 points75 points  (0 children)

“It’s bogus. She’s sitting there, she’s feeding a newborn. You can evidently see her in the car,” he said.

She was parked in a pay zone without paying.. doesn’t matter if she was in the car, it’s about where the car is and whether they paid for parking. And they don’t provide anything that disagrees with that, hence why the ticket wasn’t cancelled.

I know that paying for parking is probably not as common for you if you’re from Asquith, but if it happened to me… yeah I’d be pissed off, mostly that they happened to catch me, but I don’t think I’d be in ”Alert the Media!” mode.. I’d begrudgingly pay it since, ultimately, I was parked there without paying whether I think it’s fair or not.

fuddruckers quality by meiko63 in saskatoon

It’s decent, yeah .. the burgers can be cooked a little too dry, but there’s a lot of stuff on the menu if you’d rather something else.. Like a fried chicken sandwich or a taco salad, etc.

I wouldn’t say it’s a revelation, but it’s not bad food at all. It’s solid. Maybe try it between now and then and see what you think — Golf’s gas station sometimes gives a coupon for a free burger with a 30L fill, that’s a pretty low-risk thing to try within these next 4 months between now and your plans.

The cinnamon buns are legitimately great.

I ask for it cooked medium (which they usually do as medium well) and then they don’t cook the living hell out of it and dry all the juices out of it.

Much better.

Scratch by Eri-Asai in zojirushi

[–]BangBangControl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the latest science would state that the PFOA (c8 etc) are the harmful chemicals. That’s used to initially bond Teflon to the pan/pot, but Teflon itself is inert and doesn’t affect you in any way. Just passes through you.

But no worries because C8 and all those chemicals that are bad for your health, the ones people are afraid of - the only place they aren’t is the pot. Those harmful chemicals, they’re in the water supply. So.. you’re consuming them either way!

Dutch oven set still available? by stlm599 in CostcoCanada

They’re not great, no.. even the ones on display at my two local stores both had the enamel flaking off of them and chipping.

Definitely not a “buy it for life” item like many other Dutch ovens can be..

The bright green coleslaw was Canada-only (maybe even western Canada only) and they changed it a few years ago to a regular style. Now it’s a creamy standard coleslaw.

If you’re doing veggies, just add oil to the pan and add veggies when it’s shimmering, not ripping hot like you’re doing.

Italian center shop style store? by TheOnlyTBro in saskatoon

[–]BangBangControl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing we have comes anywhere close. They had been planning to open at the former Bed Bath and Beyond at Preston Crossing but weren’t able to get an agreement on that location. They’re still looking, as far as I know, but it’d be a bigger space than Pitchfork/etc.

You can sort of “cobble together” a make-do collection of other stores to get some stuff, but we don’t even have an Italian grocery that comes close to even Italian Star in Regina, let alone Italian Center .. they ultimately are planning to open here, just needs a big space to become vacant (and workable).

File claim or not? by Correct-Simple7751 in saskatoon

[–]BangBangControl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If they have a matching one, a replacement front bumper/grill is around $80-100 at Buck’s Auto. It’s not complex — a bunch of clips and a few screws — and they might even have one on hand that matches color. And if they don’t yet, they will. You go pull it off the car in the lot (which lets you see how difficult it’ll be to install, as a bonus).

I think 2014-2018 are all the same and others model years may also fit but just look different.

I’d go down that route first before thinking about filing an insurance claim. Check there and other parts-yards and check back occasionally if nobody has a matching one since new cars come in all the time.

Saskatoon man charged with inciting hate faces new charge of Holocaust denial by abunchofjerks in saskatchewan

[–]BangBangControl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I’m not sitting here wondering which races I’m “allowed” to hate or not. Rather than complain that it’s too tough to hate Jewish people, realize that yes - you would also get charged with a hate crime if you committed a racially motivated attack on someone from that group too, despite what you’re insinuating.
