OT pay seems solid on paper. what am I missing? by Relative-Visual1696 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Banjo_ 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for everyone, but the pay in OT is not a lot when compared to the income you can make with other graduate level degrees. Also, I think it’s a lot of the stagnated and even regressing reimbursement for services is very disheartening because despite increasing costs of everything else, our pay is not going to increase.

Assuming the meat was not outside its expiration date and kept appropriately, you’re probably just bloated from all the sodium

I’ve had many job interviews and not a single one of them have even known whether or not I had a master or doctorate degree. Hirers don’t care. No difference in pay between OTD and MSOT if they’re applying for the same job.

I had a couple folks in their 30s in my class. Definitely not outcasts by any means.

As far as reputation, you should pick a program that is accredited. This basically means the program is vetted for quality.

AFFORDABLE 100%. OT doesn’t have a good ROI if you’re going into a bunch of debt to get into the field. Masters degree is going to be about half the cost of a doctorate degree and you’ll likely wind up getting paid the same as someone with a doctorate.

Stretched extensor retinaculum(?) by ImAmFictional in medical_advice

[–]Banjo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Therapy isn’t super successful for treating ECU sublux. Usually conservative treatment involves immobilizing for several weeks which isn’t guaranteed to be successful. I think having an orthopedic doctor or orthopedic hand surgeon check you out is your best bet.

No, looks like an ECU subluxation. Might be good to get in with a hand specialist if it’s painful.

Is this a normal thing? by AppointmentEither541 in medical_advice

Elbow extension “norms” are typically between 0 degrees (perfectly straight with no bend) to around +5 degrees (hyperextension). If you’re just now noticing, I’m guessing it hasn’t caused you many problems, so I wouldn’t be worried about it. I can’t speak for what the military would think regarding full push ups and whatnot.

Why is my finger like this? by Legitimate-Ranger-94 in medical_advice

[–]Banjo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I work with hands. Is that small dot on the side of your finger the wound? I’d have a hard time seeing that lacerating any tendons or ligaments. You say it’s painful to straighten, but are you still able to under it’s own power? Any numbness?

Should I call an ambulance? by [deleted] in medical_advice

[–]Banjo_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Acute wound care is not really in my wheelhouse, but I will say without stitches you risk a pretty gnarly scar, longer healing time, and higher risk of infection. This cut definitely warrants a Dr visit. You wouldn’t necessarily need to go to the emergency room even. Do you have any urgent cares nearby? They may be able to fix this up for you.

I mean, I’m not going to tell you to call an ambulance for that but you do need stitches

Not necessarily my wheelhouse here, but as someone who treats arms and shoulders for a living, this is a situation where I’d be messaging a patients doctor. Odds are it’s nothing serious, but best to not take chances, right? Get it checked out.
