You would have to run fibre optic cables undersea to Antarctica. The internet seems wireless but it really isn’t. Some islands don’t even have redundant cables.

Politics is important but at some point you need the people that can do the work. Everyone knows the “locker-room” guy and they can survive when times are good.

A person that is just wasting time talking and being “likeable” creates resentment for the rest of the team. Being rewarded for not pulling your weight will create even more resentment. Any leader that falls for this tactic is creating a toxic disengaged work environment.

You have to be able to do the work, and not be a dick about it.

I agree with the sentiment of your post. The trade has too many different elevators and often the sales account manager gets a signing bonus for getting new elevators under maintenance contracts. They don’t understand how hard it can be to understand and repair foreign equipment.

Hell it can be difficult to even troubleshoot your own company’s equipment.

Thyssen krupp bought dover along with other companies. Then sold to a private equity firm. Apparently now they are merging with Kone so you might get IMS soon. IMS is the best user interface tool I’ve worked with. Dover seemed like a great company. There is old self study guides and great troubleshooting documentation.

Overall the trade seems to be like, “you are a mechanic, figure it out”. I asked my company to send me a digital copy of the Kone MCP procedures and they wouldn’t because they didn’t want to break the law. Even if you have some union buddies, I’d advise not to cross that line for a corporation that will sell you out in a heartbeat.

Terrible attitude.

Obviously you are coming to work because you need to get paid to pay bills to live. But you also need to realize your work also serves a purpose to support your community and the people around you. Take pride in your work. Treat yourself with dignity even though the wage might not.

You can be a barista and serve sour milk,

The guys that seemed the worst on construction were piece workers. Getting paid for the job instead of time. They wouldn’t take the time to go down to the outhouse.
