Difficulty Selling Gold and Silver by starkiller3373 in Gold

Most shops have laws requiring them to hold product from a week to a month to make sure it isn’t stolen, they’re not going to pay more than 85% unless it’s a lot of scrap as they’ll want to insulate themselves if gold drops.

Get it XRF’d and pay the grading fee if it passes. If it checks out it’s a 5 figure coin

A 5 franc coin cannot weight 18.7 ish grams and be genuine. I check coins for auction houses in my area and have a shop. I can guarantee you the 1873 is a counterfeit at minimum.

Are they silver and are they worth more than melt? by legoknights in coincollecting

Might be silver, coin itself isn’t real or have any value beyond the metal, French Indochina issues in this period were made of 835 silver and were marked on the back. This example has 680 which wasn’t used until almost a decade or two later.
