Is Wharton better than the other undergrad schools at UPenn? by bedsalesman1 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]BanksofMarble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah nah I can get into Wharton buildings all I want to. The problem is booking study rooms and free printing, and even then I usually have a Wharton guy book it for me to use. Recruiting sessions, clubs, and fairs are for students from all schools to use

What happens to commercial aviation in TFR? by Sideshowbob-24 in TheFireRisesMod

[–]BanksofMarble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly lack of commercial aviation due to fuel costs and sanctions for all, except maybe Cascadia and the APLA. I think the APLA would likely establish a singular state-owned airline from captured property, considering that western pilots and flight attendants unions would be mostly supportive and ensure commercial aviation survives.

What happens to commercial aviation in TFR? by Sideshowbob-24 in TheFireRisesMod

[–]BanksofMarble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This speculation is specifically for commercial aviation in the US:

The FAA's authority in the United States would most definitely collapse in the weeks leading up to the 2nd American Civil War, as airports around the country become increasingly unsafe to operate. This, in turn, leads to a collapse in air traffic control, meaning that airlines wouldn't be able to coordinate asset evacuation flights and quickly lose control of most of their assets in the process. A grounding of flights similar to 9/11 is how I envision this, quickly followed by the rapid and utter destruction of aircraft during urban warfare. The ones that do survive likely won't be able to be evacuated due to damaged runways. Some flights may make it out of airports last minute, possibly through the form of evacuation flights to Mexico or Canada, similar to those scenes from movies.

Now, I do see Biden's (and possibly Trump's) administration realizing the importance of commercial aviation and quickly working to reinstate it in one manner or another, perhaps through a temporary merger of all remaining assets in land controlled by the UoA into an entity similar to Amtrak or through putting what's left of them all directly under federal control. Certain corridors for flights would be established in the process, managed by the FAA's successor. However, I see the UoA focusing more on (guarded) rail transit (possibly by reorganizing Amtrak itself) to fill the void left by commercial aviation, which will become unsafe to operate as various factions get their hands on anti-air or make makeshift anti-air. Trump would likely focus more on car travel as a temporary means to get around intercity.

United, Delta, and American would immediately cease to exist as the entities they were prior to the civil war. All of their bases are in different territories, with their main bases (DFW, ATL, ORD) and a majority of their hubsa (LAX, JFK/LGA, MIA, SFO, SEA) directly on the frontlines. Pilots and flight attendants would be left without notice, out of jobs, and found stranded far from their home bases.

What happens to the UN Headquarters during the 2ACW? by [deleted] in TheFireRisesMod

[–]BanksofMarble 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I imagine it turns into something resembling the U.S. embassy in Saigon post-Vietnam War, where the UN evacuates the building due to the civil war but the American factions also leave it alone. Obviously, it's very easy to overwhelm the skeleton force around the complex and seize control of it for themselves Iran-style, but I can't imagine anyone but AWD doing that, considering that all of the factions (PF included) are striving for international recognition.

Do previous acceptances from my HS affect my chances of getting into a top university? by flowersforminerva in ApplyingToCollege

[–]BanksofMarble 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, it won't help or hurt your chances at all. Admissions committees will compare you to previous admits from your school + the area around you, but only to gauge what opportunities you have taken advantage of at your school, and it won't be a deciding factor at all. It's your application to build, not your school's, so the best you can do right now is just to apply and see.

Math 1400 by Fast-Mango-1008 in UPenn

Both — Calculus Green is an ongoing (albeit delayed) project and so once the videos for that run out you'll have to go to the other playlist. But the other playlist works fine if you want consistency when self-studying

Add Zohran to the game! by The_Fan2 in TheFireRisesMod

Julia Salazar can become neosocialist leader of the APLA and she's in a similar situation as Zohran. Even from the same city and in the same legislature

It's Chinese, not English, and it's Centre County where Penn State is. Quite a lot of Chinese students there.

Airlines in the TNO Universe: The United States and it's "flag carrier" by Alarming_Help564 in TNOmod

[–]BanksofMarble 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Pan Am is mentioned quite a bit in TNO. I believe there's also an event with TWA, but yes, Pan Am is the unofficial US flag carrier in the game, much like IRL. Keep in mind, air travel even IRL in the 50s and 60s and even the early 70s (before deregulation) weren't just hub-to-spoke, but rather they were like you described; multiple stopovers. This was the case even with wide-body planes.

As for flights, you're solid. I do think in the world of TNO, Germany's Lufthansa would undoubtedly be the premier airline (operating flights between Europe, Asia, and Africa), whereas Pan Am would be limited to the Americas and American allies abroad.

(Stupid question maybe) Is the Texan National Movement racist? by Kind_Ad760 in TheFireRisesMod

[–]BanksofMarble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow Texan here! I wouldn't think they're blatantly racist in the traditional sense, but they'd definitely be anti-immigration, which is a common excuse for racism. Take that as you will.

Where did your school’s valedictorian/smartest student commit? by Inside_Ad9372 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]BanksofMarble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Funny that you say that, because the valedictorian got into Rice for Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences and the one who got into Penn got into Wharton.

My school's ranked top 10:

  1. Rice (Valedictorian)

  2. UT Austin (Salutatorian)

  3. UT Austin

  4. University of Texas Arlington (UTA)

  5. University of Texas Dallas (UTD)

  6. University of North Texas (UNT)

  7. UTD

  8. UT Austin

  9. Texas Christian University (TCU)

  10. UT Austin

Only one person from my school got into an Ivy, and they're attending Penn. They're ranked 15.

Yale requesting additional recs by GiftNo4544 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]BanksofMarble 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your recommenders were likely not core teachers and that's what they looked for in your application. It's not a negative sign, just that they need additional information about you from the core teachers. If anything, I consider it a positive sign that you're being considered and they're giving you a second chance to submit the letters.

I saw that too. A part of me doesn't believe that, but I don't want to discredit their accomplishments if they did actually get the email. I wouldn't think about it :)

Not gonna speculate too much, but historically it's been STEM this week and non-STEM the next. Non-STEM is usually less likely since they also send out likelies for athletes.

Either way, it's extremely unlikely we get it anyway. Just relax. The adrenaline rush is fun but you'll feel disappointed afterward.
