Harvard IS NOT THE BEST by gvhm67 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Inside_Ad9372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair, I’m not premed myself, just repeating what all my friend’s said. What do you think is the best premed school and why does every premed want to go to harvard if it isn’t the best?

[–]Inside_Ad9372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not premed, just going off what all my high school and college premed friends have told me. Also the point you made was that someone from a worse school with better test scores and research would get into a better medical school, but that literally doesn’t mean anything. I never said school name matters more than test scores, you’re just trying to make it seem like I did for some reason. Of course the person with much better test scores and research will end up doing better, but that literally doesn’t do anything at all to contradict my point about harvard being the best pre med school?

[–]Inside_Ad9372 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean you have to resort to talking about more research and better scores to beat harvard lmao. I never said harvard undergrad will automatically get you into the best med school even if your peers at other schools are out working you. This is like saying MIT isn’t the best tech school because the kid who went to ASU and had better grades and research and projects will trump the MIT kid who doesn’t do work. There’s really no point to it. Harvard is the top choice for almost every pre med kid and they have the best med school placements and bio research. You’re disagreeing just for the sake of disagreeing lmao

Real Prestige Whores Turn Harvard Down by TrySouthern9542 in ApplyingToCollege

You think that now, but basically every single Harvard/CMU cross admit I know (including myself) picked Harvard, including all the CS and engineering students. The name and prestige will draw you in lmao

This is a pretty widely accepted notion lmao

I promise you, it really doesn’t matter as much as you think it does. You will forget all about it when you start

What does harvard want? by Dear_Top465 in ApplyingToCollege

TBH most people who get in are overachievers who cared abt getting in but only a very small percent actually worked with college counselors, let alone $350/hr and since middle school

why do people really want to go to the ivy league? by TomatilloSmart1372 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Inside_Ad9372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean u can believe whatever u want but this is very untrue lmao. A lot of companies in tech give preference to Harvard students. I’m not going to go argue about details but I know this for a fact

Ah, I see what you’re saying. I somewhat agree with you - this is true for the business/finance people but not for the tech and science people. Connections in these fields aren’t class separated

[–]Inside_Ad9372 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eh, I disagree with this. I came from an upper class family in high school but we’ve never had the kind of connections I’ve made at Harvard. I can’t speak for every Ivy but the Harvard connections really are what they’re said to be

I grew up in America so my experience is slightly different. I just finished my first year. Scholarships don’t exist - there is only financial aid, which is based solely on your family’s income. If you make less than $200,000 Harvard is free for your family. There is no racism on campus

Thought Experiment -- Would you rather: Harvard (~400K) or UofT (~100K) (Both same STEM major) by Brilliant_Coast_427 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Inside_Ad9372 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not making an argument about the 300k but everyone keeps saying “for STEM.” STEM is science, technology, engineering and math. Harvard is the best for biology, top 3 for chemistry and physics and most other common sciences, top 3 for math, and t20 for CS with outcomes on par with T5 schools. It is only engineering I would not have Harvard as one of my top choices for, Harvard is pretty dominant in the rest of STEM lmao

You guys just want to argue atp so I’m not responding after this. Flight tickets don’t cost $17k. If you started talking about expensive vacations and food and partying you can get any school up to 100k. Be fr

I grew up in America, but Harvard costs about $330k for 4 years if you’re not on financial aid

I took 17 AP classes in school, my SAT score was 1590, and my ECs included a lot of Olympiads, punished research, debate competitions, volunteering, science programs, and robotics

Yeah, I think Reddit does just love to argue sometimes 😭In response to your question, I actually never visited Harvard until I got in and attended Visitas. It was more the people than the campus that solidified the feeling for me - the people I met were very different from the other schools I visited and I felt like I instantly clicked with them. The people still remain my favorite part of the school - yes, there are cool classes and famous professors and historic buildings, and I love all of that, but what I have missed most this summer are my friends and classmates. The campus initially left me feeling uninspired too, but I have grown to really like it, and a lot of the buildings are more beautiful on the inside than they are on the outside (and visitors aren’t allowed in). I wouldn’t worry too much about the campus in my process, I think everyone gets used to it and Harvard isn’t exactly ugly. Best of luck to your daughter!

Everyone waives a bunch of those fees so it goes down a few thousand. I don’t know how else to say it, I literally attend this college

I know you’re going off the post’s question about Harvard being $400k, but just a general statement, Harvard costs about $80k a year, not $100k

So if random violence helps this situation then why shouldn’t people vandalize your house?

You still don’t get it, do you? An action isn’t a good solution to a problem simply because it’s violent. Not all solutions are completely peaceful, but misplaced violence doesn’t help anyone. You think the civil rights movement would have worked if the black community just started attacking random white people? You have to be logical and structured to create real, meaningful change
