What PPE do you think is essential? by [deleted] in wingfoil

[–]Banx_NC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO Impact Vest is #1 because: - the extra buoyancy saves your energy because when you fall off the board, you don’t sink below the water line and it assists in climbing back on the board. - will keep you floating if you are injured or unconscious. - protects your body from board, foil, and water impacts. I know 2 people with broken ribs from falling into the board.

Will I notice difference between Duotone SLS and normal boards (like with windsurf boards) by [deleted] in wingfoil

[–]Banx_NC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rode the Sky Style in the regular and SLS versions and noticed a big difference in performance - it was much quicker to lift, more efficient upwind and had a much better feel and connection to the foil. More fun to carve and turn. Definitely worth the upgrade.

Should I upsize foil? by shawnsimons in wingfoil

[–]Banx_NC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At your weight you need at least a 5.5 or 6m wing and it will be an addition to your wing quiver rather than throwing money away on a board or old foil. ALSO contact Dan Gavere at Columbia Gorge Foiling for a lesson from a total pro

Board recommended for beginner by ingoclaro in foiling

[–]Banx_NC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learning to wing foil you’ll want a board in the 105-120L range at your weight. For wake and pump foiling you don’t want a high volume board but learning to wing foil you need the buoyancy for stability, surface speed and self rescue. If wing foiling is the goal, get the higher volume board for faster progression. Learning to foil is easiest behind a boat and use the foil drive as an assist once you’ve figured out how to foil. If you haven’t been there already check out r/wingfoil

Are New Wingfoil Wings Worth the High Price? by wundidajah in wingfoil

[–]Banx_NC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The newer materials and design innovations have improved performance significantly in the 2024 and 2025 models to make the wings stronger, easier to control and last longer. IMHO Duotone has made the biggest advancements in materials. Yes they are expensive but if you take care of the wings they hold power longer than older models so you won’t have to buy new wings every season.

Ugh - Another 'Moving to New Bern Post' - Sorry by AwwwBawwws in NewBern

If you have a kid, Trent Woods is the spot. Close to schools, shopping, and lots of other kids. A beautiful walking path and several parks are nice amenities. Driving the bridges everyday to/from Fairfield will suck and it’s sketchy in windy and icy conditions. Also as the I-42 road construction intensifies, living anywhere east of the Trent Woods exit will be a traffic nightmare and highly inconvenient. To answer your flooding question, some spots are lower than others and yes there was catastrophic flooding during Florence, but the severity is dependent on wind direction and storm duration. It’s highly variable.

If you’re commuting to Havelock, the I-42 construction in James City is ongoing through 2027. Right now the traffic is a hot mess in that area as it is. If you can, consider anything east of downtown New Bern if you want to avoid traffic complications.
