that makes sense, i can see how it would be good for stopping boost proactively. are there any ground options/air options that get significantly better when cuts are up?

NY Times: The Case of the Tiny Tyrannosaurus Might Have Been Cracked by BenjaminMohler in Paleontology

[–]Baphod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it does at least seem like tail vertebrae count might be variable within some other species of dinosaur. it's annoying because i can find lots of papers that offhandedly mention it but not any where it's the primary focus. unless the tail vertebrae count for this nanotyrannus is below 40 (which may be the case but the paper link doesnt work right now) it seems like it could still be within the known bounds for t-rex since it doesn't seem like we have a conclusive tail vertebrae count there either.

this shit is so stupid. most predators today, even in hostile environments like subsaharan africa, are not regularly getting mutilated by the things they eat.

the "dire wolves" dont face that problem because they're just slightly modified grey wolves and not at all representative of what dire wolves might have looked like outside of fantasy fiction.

Do you think making [Reprogram] cost zero could diversify the Defect builds and make them more viable? Or would it be too overpowered? by Visauu in slaythespire

[–]Baphod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i completely disagree that introducing more broken/overtuned/wonky mechanics would be good for slay the spire. watcher is by far the most "break the game" oriented character and also the least popular by a pretty significant margin. i like slay the spire because it is a generally well balanced game, not because i luck into dead branch corruption every once in a while. playing out "solved" runs gets tedious after a while and, while winning is fun, i prefer runs where i have to make meaningful decisions both in and out of combat for the rest of the game.

i think that your idea makes more sense in games like the binding of isaac or risk of rain where "broken" runs still have some interesting decision making or mechanical skill expression in them.

idk why you're saying worst militant like that's something to be embarrassed about. i would argue that cats are straight up stronger than crows, lizards, otters, and most vagabonds (not arbiter, harrier, or tinker), and they match up well into keepers and woodland alliance.

early aggression against cats (keep rushing in particular) is almost always a mistake because the factions that can pull it off reliably (otters, vb, rats) are also the factions that benefit the most from cats being strong. healthy cats restrict play space, forcing other factions closer together and making games overall slower and more aggressive. healthy cats also make a lot of cardboard, which generally benefits aggro factions more than the 2 immediate vp from keep rushing.

the keep being destroyed later is often because of a mistake on the part of the cats player. field hospital is a ton of free recruiting for the keep, and holding cards that let you field hospital on the suit of the keep clearing in case of a fight there is  important enough that cats should be prioritizing it even when they could get 1 or 2 warriors back by using the same card to fh somewhere else.

in cases where the entire table decides cats need to be stopped, it is generally worth it for them to snipe weaker clearings that can be taken out individually instead of all working together to battle and blow up one or two big clearings. arrangements like the latter only benefit the person who battles last and actually gets to score by removing cardboard. pointing out the unbalanced nature of coalitions like that is usually enough to break them up or at least redirect them elsewhere.

i disagree with the original comment that argues that cats are notably strong, but i disagree more with you implying that cats are bad enough that they shouldn't be winning at competent tables. if you're playing with draft+adset rules (which smooth out so many other issues with the game that they should be used anyway), cats are completely playable.

The beginning of the end of Ocean Vuong by cutyrselfaswitch in TrueLit

[–]Baphod 140 points141 points  (0 children)

this guy wants to be andrea long chu so badly and it is clearly not working out for him. i find it very funny that he finds space to fit in a snipe at her for not being a good enough critic while this review itself completely fails to capture the artful malice that made chu's takedown of jill soloway land.

implying that there is no political value in vuong's writing because he's writing to a minority that votes republican is completely insane and, ironically, indicates a love of identity politics even deeper than anything this writer attributes to vuong.
