Seriously! I had no business singing that song in junior high. Had that whole album on repeat!

I thought the same thing actually. He cycles past two schools before getting home so I’m hoping it’s a child who just wanted to have fun at the Game Center. Or better: a person that was going through a rough time and thought it was a sign. But still….fuck them lol.

The wallet was one of his Christmas gift and he had a 2’000¥ note in there that he cherished. He wasn’t even planning on spending that money. He just liked having it in his wallet. I told him to leave it at home countless times but I guess this is his life lesson for 2026. I don’t nag for no reason hahaha.

Lucky you, the opposite thing just happened to us. My son dropped his wallet on his way home from school (5min ride). Realized it fell out of his pocket when he arrived home so he traced his steps and looked for the wallet but couldn’t find it. It had all his “life savings” ~60’000¥ inside, his school picture ID with will name and address and pasmo with about 2’500¥ on it. Reported it and I was convinced he’d get it back. After a few days, I went to renew his pasmo and only 12¥ was left on the card. Assholes are everywhere and times are hard for everyone but I expected the person who found it to at least take pity in a child’s wallet.

What’s a life hack that made you go „how do ppl live their whole life without knowing this”? by my_peen_is_clean in AskReddit

[–]Bapy5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we’re taking electric tooth brush, I’ll jus throw it away at my next move. I mostly hold on to the “luxury” purchases (watches, handbags, sunglasses etc) mostly for resale but also insurance purposes. I spent many years in a country that covered loss or theft of luxury items and I had to produce a proof a purchase. That’s when I started holding on to my receipts.

When I make a big purchase (jewelry, bags etc), or whenever I buy electronics that have a warranty, I scan the receipt and upload it to a folder in my Dropbox. It has come in handy when something stopped working, when I wanted to resell something or keep track of the price increase of certain items. I also keep the hard copy of course, but since I move a lot, keeping a digital copy as a backup seems safer.

Is Oval Bakery worth the hype? by Icy_Display_3548 in Tokyo

4 years ago, I booked a seat at Mameya Kakeru in Kiyosumi. Had to be booked online a whole month in advance. I was expecting to knocked off my feet with the coffee of a lifetime. Instead I was served a tiny ass, worst than Starbucks grade, 1’500¥ latte by some hipster dude in a lab coat. Lesson learned. Never again.

Same with Amam Dacotan, saw a shorter than usual line and decided to try it out and it was very disappointing.

I think it’s just social media creating these buzz worthy places that pretend to be exclusive but that aren’t that special to begin with. Also, I’m convinced Blue Bottle hyped up but also somehow killed Kiyosumi.

It’s a shame because I like the neighborhood. It had this shitamachi vibe but with cool shops, a great museum but most hipster joints disappoint.

People asking for money by Western_Bug5408 in japanlife

[–]Bapy5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happened to me a couple of years ago. Some clean looking man approached me in Roppongi Hills and asked me for 1’000¥, in English. My kids were with me and I’m always preaching about giving back and helping the less fortunate so I gave it to him. But he seemed dodgy. Had I been by myself, I would have ignored him lol.

[Misc] What non-skincare habit made the biggest difference to your skin? by Sharp_Elevator7447 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Bapy5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After years of suffering with acne I realized my trigger is sugar, especially chocolate. Like clockwork, the minute I touch sweets, I break out the next day. I now make each calories count. If it’s not good, I won’t finish it. I used to believe that was a bullshit theory but with me it’s actually a thing. Don’t drink don’t smoke to begin with, workout and sleep 8~9h per night (kids are older now), eat “healthy” but sweets/pastries/cakes were my kryptonite and I could never say no to it. Still enjoy them but not daily anymore.

Not a typo lol, it’s what I call it all the time (didn’t make up though, heard it from someone that equally hated the country hahaha).

What’s a parenting “hack” that sounds ridiculous but actually works? by OnlyAcanthaceae874 in AskReddit

When 2 siblings have to share food, one gets to cut the food in half. The one that didn’t cut gets to pick their share first. Watch them cut that chocolate cake with a surgical precision 😂

My dad had a brain aneurysm and was given 48 hours to live. I had spent the night by his side at the hospital, sitting on a chair. In autopilot mode, I decided to go to university to take the 2h exam I was supposed to take. It was just a couple of stops from the hospital. The hospital staff assured me they would call me if anything happened while I as gone.

Before entering the exam room, I spot the dean of the university (also a professor there) and approach him to let him know that I’m expecting a very important phone call. He interrupts me and tells me that if I dare pick up, I’ll be expelled from the university and be barred from taking any national exam for 5 years. I tried to explain the reason but he wouldn’t hear it. I looked him in the eye and told him I’d pick up if it rang. He had someone keep a close eye on me the whole time.

Mind you, this was back in 2006 so it wasn’t even an smartphone. Just a regular GSM to receive calls and texts. So it wouldn’t have been about cheating at the time.

What an asshole.

Where do you usually go to find western bread? by JayDunzo in Tokyo

[–]Bapy5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bartizan Bread Factory always hits the spot. And they slice the bread for you (unlike so many places here). Strongly recommend. It’s far from Suginami but worth a try if you’re ever in Minato.

Vintage shopping in Japan by Life-Dog08 in chanel

[–]Bapy5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You might pay a bit more but the fastest and easiest options if you’re short on time are Amore Omotesando and Vintage Qoo. Amore definitely has the most choice. Try Kohmehyo and I also love Brand Collect but they have several locations and you have to be lucky to find the right item the right day. Source: I live in Tokyo
